Ruger LCP -- Has Anyone Else Had Finish Problems

Your LCP slide is blued, which is black oxide, which is essentially an accelerated rust process. Salt causes blued steel to rust in the right conditions. Right conditions would be lots of sweat, heat and living in a high humidity area.

My suggestion to you would be to strip the parts of your slide, remove the blueing, buy some quality gun paint and paint the slide on the outside.

Carried mine all summer long in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster in my cargo shorts. Other than having to clean lint out of it every couple of weeks, no issues here in hot and humid MO.

All day, everyday in a nemisis pocket holster. I live in South Carolina and sweat all over my LCP in the summer. I got a very little rust on the end of the barrel but none on the slide.

Some people's sweat is just more damaging than others....

mine doesn't rust but I get a little fuzz on it from the leather holster, you gotta love plastic just wipe it of and it's A OK

As said in Post #5, some people sweat acid. I had a buddy who's sweat could cause stainless steel to rust in about an hour after he touched it. All of his guns were stainless and all of them had rust pits on the triggers and grip frame metal. Eat more garlic.

Agree a good gun paint or nickel plating is your best bet. What you want is a barrier over the metal.

I'd try a thicker lube like grease to coat the slide.

Oils are light and will run off or evaporate especially when they're warm. Thick oil or grease will stay put better.

As mentioned Blueing is actually a sort of corrosion itself and will rust if exposed to oxygen, it has to have a layer of oil or grease or wax to prevent it from coming in contact with water or air.

You must create a lasting barrier of some sort to prevent rust on a blued surface.

I've never tried it since rust is not a big problem for me but I've heard a lot of people swear by Johnson's Paste Wax as a coating for blued metal.

I've been a ruger fan for years but have seen constant complaining about Keltecs blueing. I'm glad to see someone complaining about a different companies blueing problems, even if it is my favorite manuf.

Just checked mine that I have carried daily since June, not a speck of rust. It gets unholstered to have the lint blown out of it weekly and gets a workout/clean up every couple of weeks.

I sold a p3at in blue and got a chrome version.

I believe ruger fanboyism over the LCP is crazy given the P3AT is the exact gun out for 10 years.

But I will say this, the blue on 2 former P3AT's was magic marker deep.

The chrome is fantastic and only 20 dollars more. (plus 30 for a new grey grip and you have a looker)

Yes, it can be difficult to find (I have to buy on-line and pay shipping).
Yes, it is somewhat pricey.
Yes, it works unlike anything else I have seen.
Yes, I use it, and will continue to do so...until I find something better.
