Bought a new Bersa Firestorm today an fired 200 rounds of CCI mini mags. The gun has a 10 round mag. and at least 1 or 2 rounds needed a second trigger pull to fire the round. I find it hard t believe it's the ammo. ONly 1 round wouldn't fire and I checked the round and it had a typical .22 dent in the rim.

What do you make of this?

I checked the round and it had a typical .22 dent in the rim.
Then it's the ammo.

If there had been priming compound inside the rim where the dent is, it would have fired.

While CCI is generally one of the best rimfire brands, they do have duds. +1 on try other ammo. If the rim is dented, it's bad ammo, not light strikes.

I recently bought one of these Bersa .22s myself. I put at least four brands of ammo through it so far, mostly mini-mags and about two boxes of Stingers, and all have worked well. Whereas CCI ammo is usually dependable, any rimfire round is expected to fail now and again. I don't think I'd blame the gun... yet.

Here's my new plinker.

I'd blame the ammo at this point, too.

Also, put more rounds through the Bersa to get it more worn in. My Firestorm .22 was real tight feeding from full magazines and the trigger was fairly rough straight out of the box. My gun definitely needed some breaking in and runs as smooth as a .22 autoloader can run now.

Off topic a little but I'm interested in the Bersa 22. Will they cycle with the standard velocity bulk pack 22s or do they require something brisker?

My Firestorm (Bersa) didn't like bulk pack ammo until I got it broken in. It runs well (say 95%) with Remington Golden Bullet. The bulk pack ammo my gun absolutely will not run well with is Winchester Wildcat, Remington Thunderbolt, and Fiocchi unplated. It will run fair with Federal Lightning, but not good enough to buy any more for just my Firestorm.

I have a Bersa Firestorm 22 that is great for plinking.
Two things I noticed (and was told), lots of ammo to break it in, and can be very ammo picky. The only ammo I found to funtion without incident (FTE's mostly) is anything 40gr. Really doesn't like the 36gr stuff at all.
But a very accurate gun for target shooting.

my lady just bought her bersa 22fs last month. went to walmart and bought 4 different kinds of ammo. took it out to break it in and find out what it shoots best. don't remember which one it was, but one type of ammo wouldn't cycle the action. the other three brands ran and shot fine.

just something i do when breaking in a new 22lr weapon.

I don't think much of it.
.22's are notorious for being picky with ammo.
My 597 was picky at first but after I broke it in it fires 100% with anything I feed it.

Try Velocitors. They may be a little bit more snappy but they should go bang every time.

Honestly, I've had good luck with auto .22's and Winchester bulk. Out of a box of 500 I've had less than 1% fail to go bang.

The only thinkg I've found so far that my Bersa 22 won't eat is Federal bulk stuff.
It likes the Winchester bulk and the "AR-22" rounds, and both types of Aguila I've tried.
Just not the Federal so much.

My Firestorm runs great on CCI MiniMags and Rem. Golden bulk. It fails to feed Fed. bulk very well.

trying some other manufacturers sounds like a good idea.

but really, do lot's of guns have problems with cci minimags? i thought those were the best of the non-match/non-target type rounds (don't have vocabulary for what i'm trying to describe) ("the best of the not-too expensive"?)

my cci minimag count is right around 5000 rounds fired with 3 duds. i'd guess that OP's chances of any duds due to ammo are unlikely. more than one dud and i would look at the gun.

CCI are generally accepted as one of the best non-match grade ammunitions. But that doesn't mean they are immune to misfires. Check the lot # of the box that is running duds, and contact CCI and see if they are aware of anything concerning that run. They might comp you for your toubles with their ammo, they may not. In any case, running one type of ammo in a new gun just generally isn't the best idea, especially if the gun need a break-in. It may be the gun that is an issue, but I'd determine that only when I experienced the same type of problems with at least three different brands.

Just picked one up myself. Shocked to hear that about the minimags. I have never experienced a ftf with them, and I have fired hundreds out of mine. My thunder 22 handled them perfectly. Although I did think the pin strikes looked a bit light, at least compared to my other .22's. I have a 617 and 10/22 and they both almost crush the rim flat. The thunder just dents it. It also handled about 50 federal HV bulk pack without a hitch, great because although they were HV they were normal bulk pack prices. I have never seen them again, still have about a brick.
