Hello guys, i have been looking alot into a scope in the $300 range, I would like it to have mil dots power up to 20x and clear glass at 20x, if you have any recommendations i would like to hear them.

Thank you

Going to be hard to find at that price point. For $300 you can get a SWFA super sniper in a fixed power with mildot. They can be had in 6x,10x or 16x at that price, The 10x is decent glass but I have no experience with the 6x or 16x.

To get what you are asking you are probably going to have to spend a lot more than $300.

I agree on the SWFA Super Sniper in 10x. Great scope for the price, only cheap scope I'll buy. Not sure about the higher power ones either. Don't really need one at the time, my range only goes to 600m so 4-10x does fine depending.

Weavers target scopes have a steady and loyal following for a reason. They do what they do very well.

20X is a lot of magnification. You are going to be fighting mirage, chromatic shift and color fringing like crazy at 20X. To minimize that in your price range, you need to stick with fixed power (fixed lens groups) and put the "extra" into better lens coatings. It's just the way it is. You've got to compromise somewhere :(

I will be using it on my long range .22lr lol

The Mueller 8-32x40 is super clear glass, it is a large scope long but does a great job, I have one on a 17hmr and a Savage 223. Fine cross hair with dot usually I set mine at 24 power for 100 yards you can see a gnat at that power.:D

Cost is $249 it is a 30mm tube so takes larger rings, the Mueller is more clear then my 5-20x44 Nikon Monarch.

If you wanted less power then a Mueller APV 4-14x44 is an excellent 22 scope clear edge to edge although cross hair is slightly heavy. Cost $129

Nikon Buckmasters 6x18x40 mil dot or Bushnell Banner 6-24x40 mil dot

I have both of these. The Nikon has better glass, side focus, repeatable turrets, a more forgiving eye box, greater eye relief through the magnification range and comes with a 4 inch sun shade and a separate set of target turrets for around $320. I have had the Nikon on my .308 for a year + with no issues. The Bushnell Banner is a no frills scope with good glass, adjustable objective and good repeatable turrets (a little "mushy" though) for around $175. I have had one on my 30.06 for at least 3 years with no issues. I shoot both scopes to 500 yards every couple of weeks.

Buying used is always a risk, but it will help you get closer to your goal if money is limited and you are patient for the right deal.

I just bought a 5-20x Nikon Monarch from a guy for $300 with rings and mounts. He originally put it on his rifle, then realized that it was too high power for the 25 to 50 yard plinking he shoots. And he needed Christmas money. So he put it up for sale cheap.

I got another Monarch X for $289 plus 15 shipping on ebay when no one else bid. That one is 2.5-10x.

Both Nikons have excellent glass. Only my Zeiss Conquest is better. I got that one on sale at Cabela for $350.

I have a variable gantry mount in the mail right now. So i will not need a scope with alot of MOA adjustment. I would rather spend the money on good glass with mil dots then a scope with 120 moa adjustment

My ffl swears by the 18X bushnells that he buys for $180, for his .22lr league. Not sure on the model, but not the Elites.

I will be using it on my long range .22lr lol
One of the best and most popular scopes for the .22lr is the Muller 4.5-14X40 APV. There is a new version of the APV with mil dots, 30mm tube and target turrets. List is $190.

Mine has been in service for about 6-7 years and has been a great scope, tracking and zero are perfect. I have a few friends that even use them on .223/5.56 rifles, although they are intended for a rimfire.

I got a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 mil-dot.

thank you all for the input

22LR..I first sugested Millet but failed to realize you are using a 22LR. if you look at a 22Lr balistic chart your not really gonna reach out much more than 100-150 yards with any accuracy.. I have had luck to 100 yards with nice palm sized grouping with 40 grain cci's. For what its worth I find 75 yards more than far enough to get groupings these days, then I have to go with a .223 to get out to 200 and beyond. after 500-600 well you need a 30 cal.
Unless its perfectly still outside, no wind etc. your going to have trouble grouping 22lr , youll need to use the best 40 grainers you can get, and well the price. Aproaches what 55 grain .223 is when on sale at 5.50 a box of 20. watch cabelas for that deal. AE 55 .223j are very acurate. 500 rounds for 139 with free shipping. Just saying. I think most old timers usually reccomend no more than 4-5 power scopes for 22lr. And with that would put you well below your price point. maybe enough for a 10/22 bull barrel...??? I know cause Ive tried to defeat the odds. mounting a 12x and a 24x on a 22 lr target barrel and well the bullet weights just dont cut it for going out past anymore than 200 and thats 6-8 inch groupings. .. that's IMO of course.. its fun to try though.
