Wolf primers

I use Tula that work great. I have several thousand Wolf but I have yet to load 1.

I've never used them personally, but I have read good things about them and can't recall ever hearing anyone having a problem with them.

Seating is VERY Important...

You probably will find several thousand post on the Internet on Wolf primers..Most will all say GREAT primers..EXCEPT...Be sure to fully seat them.:uhoh:
For me Wolf primers have worked just fine for the multi K's of them that I have loaded--just be sure to give them an extra "Push" when seating. It seems that they are just a little larger than Win/CCI primers.
People that have had problems with them said that they would not go off on first strike of the firing pin:confused:--Went off just fine on second strike?? Well guess what??
The first strike seated the primer..
The second strike fired the primer..

FWIW: There are several Pros out there that say that Wolf primers are the most accurate+consistent of any of the name brands..Bill.;)

They are fine, never had a malfunction at all. I bought a few thousand of each when they had them at graffs for $17 a brick

I have shot 10,000 small pistol and 5000, large pistol Wolf primers and never had a misfire. I have noticed that the cups differ in hardness from one lot to another. But, they have all fired.

They are all I have been using for 2 years now - always go bang just fine and the price can't be beat. I use their SPP and LPP.

I use them in Small Rifle, large Rifle and large pistol. Seem to work fine for me. I think the cups are a little harder than others.
I have about 10,000 on hand

Hey were you guys getting the small pistol primers from? I have been looking for a year and have found none?

...I have noticed that the cups differ in hardness from one lot to another....

How can you tell how hard the cups are or that there is variation? Do you get a different firing pin indentation or is there some other way to gauge hardness?

Yes - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=7805786#post7805786

These are Glock striker hits on "harder" primer cups (CCI SR and Tula SP primer cups)

Normal Glock striker indents in the front and light striker indent in the back (all primers ignited)

Harder CCI primer cup on the left even after primer ignition showing shallow indent and no "typical" Glock rectangle imprint (with softer cups, expanding gas pressure will force an imprint of rectangle hole on Glock's breach wall opening)

Wolf and Tula are accepted as being the same, same order #s same factory, etc. Ive shot a few K of them in all forms. The only problems Ive seen are with a lot of LRM that I've got. They are slightly oversized and are hard to seat in some cases. On the other hand if you have some loose primer pockets they'll give you a few more firings. In My and a couple of other WSMs, we've seen some hang fires and misfires, Aheavy, hard striking firing pin like Remmi 700 has little trouble with them-only 1 misfire in 500 rounds. Smaller lighter firing mechanisms like Savage or Browning give mis or hang fires around 5%.. I think my Howa has had hang fires but only one was readily ID'd. However,This is only 1 lot of Wolf brand. In fact the performance and accuracy with all the other forms has been quite exceptional. Most of the issues seem to stem from the slight oversize of the cups and the need to really seat them firmly.

For the thread where I am testing Tula SP primers (took some testing time off for Christmas shopping), will be continuing the testing using 45ACP cases with small primer pockets in Sig 1911.

I am planning to do additional comparison testing and posting for Wolf LP, Tula LP, Winchester LP, CCI BR2 and Tula LR primers to include cup size measurements (diameter/height) and seating characteristics (flush, normal.004" below flush and .008"-.010" crush depth).

So stay tuned on the thread - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=7805786#post7805786

I use Wolf SP,LR,SR and LRM primer with no issues,if you have a firearm that has light striker issues with American or other standard primer you will most like have the same issues with the Wolf/Tula primers as well as they are a bit harder.

I picked up most of mine for $15 per K and will buy more in the future.

Only thing is that I have not experienced any ignition issues with over 10K+ Wolf/Tula LP (bronze/brass colored) primers but experiencing ignition issues with Tula SP primer. Yes, the same pistol fires Winchester/Magtech/PMC SP and Tula/CCI SR primers without any issue. ;)

I really do think there is Tula SP specific ignition issues attributed to harder primer cups, and hence my continued testing in Sig 1911.

Just curious....have you put a dial caliper or a micrometer on them to see how much they differ? I would but I don't have any Wolf primers.

I will check that out today and get back later on tonight,I'm off today and will be doing some reloading. I have Wolf primers in the sizes I mentioned as well as CCI,Win,Fed in several similar sizes.

Got it done didn't realize I had so many types,O well I guess that can be a good problem to have. I measure a sample of 3 each to get and average but they all measured the same. I don't have anymore of the copper cup primers.

I bought some Wolf primers for my .327 federal brass which seemed to have looser than normal primer pockets. I had no issue with them and the fact that they were $10 less ber thou than the other brands was ok with me. They seated well and did feel a bit tighter than CCI etc.

I recently ran a test to compare velocities with my standard 30-06 match load of 168 SMK 47.0 grs IMR 4895.

I do not recommend the use of Federals in Garands, Federals are the most slamfiring primers around, so I am not publishing any federal primer data in my Garand, because someone may think it might be an endorsement of use.

I used the great old WLR nickel plated primers. These were made prior to 1999. Winchester changed their primers in 1999 to make them "more" sensitive and changed the primer color to brass. These brass Winchester primers have thinner cups than the older version I do not recommend their use in Garands/M1a's. I also do not recommend the use of brass WSR as primer piercing in my AR's ate up a handfull of firing pins at loads that never bothered the great old nickel plated WSR.

Tula 7.62 primers were advertized by Graf as equivalent to CCI #34 primers. CCI #34 primers are advertized as being “mil spec” primers by CCI. Mil Spec primers are the only appropriate primers to use in Garands and M1a’s as they are less sensitive than commercial primers and greatly reduce the risk of an out of battery slamfire.

Tula 7.62 and Wolf primers shot very well and I used Tula 7.62 a couple of weeks later in a match.

I think I recently read a thread where a poster said he got the most consistent chrony results using wolf primers.
