Would anyone be interested in a PS90 style carbine in .30 cal carbine or 7.62 Tokarev? Just wondering if I was the only one?

I'd definitely get one if it fired a standard pistol caliber round. As it is, it can't be used for competition because it does so much damage to the average steel target.

It can be used in any competition where a 5.56/.223 rifle is used, can't it?

Ammo isn't as common anymore for 7.62 x 25 and .30 carbine. 5.7 x 28 is a quite powerful especially out of a carbine.

It is great CQB ammo, but i would prefer a more common ammo. Even if it were 22WMR or 9mm. If the Keltec RMR ever comes out, i'll have one.

Granted you can't find 5.7 at Wal Mart but 7.62 x 25 is drying up, I haven't seen a spam can of that ammo in over a year and .30 Carbine has been uncommon already, good gunshops carry 5.7 in my experience.

lead core 5.7 rounds are no more harmful to properly hardened steel than lead core .223 is.

It seems like .30 Carbine is a lot less scarce than it used to be... around here anyway.

However, it would seem somehow wrong to load "Sands of Iwo Jima" rounds into a "Blade Runner" looking carbine. :)

not so much

I have found that there are a few companies that carry 30 carbine, and the 7.62 tok.... even wincheser makes it here. I personally like the S&B stuff. If one were done in say, 9mm, as a more standard round, and also offered in 7.62 tok, it would be a great place to start. especially if the 9mm was built to take 9mm +p or +p+ all day long. This seems to be right in SBR territory as it was intended. The magazine would not work with more than a marginally tapered cartridge, so the x39 ammo is out. Too bad, I was hoping for a 5.45 version.

A 9mm would be great, and I'd buy a 7.62 Tok if I'm not suddenly worried about it drying up. I do so want a tokarev...

Does it have to take the same style of magazines as the PS90? Make one that would take a Glock mag in the stock, without the PS90's price tag, and I can see plenty of the subgun fans grabbing them.

As Browncoatdawn alluded to, you really need a straight-walled case to get any appreciable capacity out of a magazine similar to what the P90 uses. I honestly don't think the 7.62x25 would be a good candidate. The .30 carbine might also pose a problem after 20 rounds.

I'm a big fan of both the .30 Carbine and the 7.62x25, but the P90 does fairly well with the 5.7x28 from what I've read, especially considering the P90 is intended as a PDW and not any sort of battle rifle.

Even less appropriate but more appealing (to me) would be something akin to the 9x23 Winchester loaded with a slower-burning powder to make the most out of a 10+ inch barrel. However, considering the P90 is a blowback, I don't know how far that design can be pushed.

It's obviously an interesting concept, but if I were to purchase a P90, I'd likely want it in 5.7

With slight mods...

With slight mods to the magazine, I could see a 9mm, 40 cal, 10mm, and the tok round all used fairly easily. I dont know how to get around the more extreme taper on the 5.45 round, but I would love to figure it out.
Using the same setup, it would pretty much need to be a tuned and scaled ps90 magazine, as the glock style mag wouldnt keep all of the attributes that makes the basic firearm desireable to me. I could also imagine using a 38 super, but I am not sure how it would perform.
