i have what i need to hunt with, what i want now is just something to play around at the range with

here's what im looking for:

-does not cost significantly more than about $400
-not a rimfire but still cheap ammo
-can be bolt action, lever action, or semi-auto
-would prefer a factory new gun, but can be an old military rifle
-if a semi-auto, has a detatchable magazine and can take hi cap mags(which for me is 20+)

Buy an SKS, then buy the Tapco conversion kit to make it legal for "high capacity" magazines. Buy a couple of the Tapco mag's, they're good to go. That should all come in under $400.

An AK might be a good fit. $350 for a WASR ammo is cheap they are fun and you can do some more mods down the road but not necessary.

WASR 10/63 . $439.00 . J&G Sales
yeah i've seen those beforew with mostly good reviews, my only concern with that is the off chance that i get a ****ty ones with misaligned sights, keyholes like crazy, and/or mag wobble from hell... i don't make a lot of money so i don't want to get screwed over...

i've heard TGI dosen't have all those problems that CAI does, but all TGI seams to have is Saigas and AMD-65s...

Dorkfish...you know whats out there. There isn't some "hidden AK" thats going to jump out at you. There is a chance you could get a canted sight with a WASR. TGI has slightly better quality, but if you don't like their selection then go with the WASR.

im just trying to be careful because i've made some mistakes like this in the past and don't want to do it again...
