Recently I was doing a bit of housekeeping around my reloading area. I was going through my components to see what I had.

I found an old tin of CCI 200 primers. It is still full. It also has the price tag on it. It is marked $.99.

I don't know how long I have had these primers, but it must be awhile. It must be more then a few years since primers were priced under a buck.

Does anyone here have any old reloading components with the price tag still on it?

I miss the $10 per K for primers days, along with the $30 per K 55 Gr FMJ days. Probably long gone. If they come back, we will be crying about other much larger problems.

I shot a Taurus PT145 Pro yesterday. It ran flawlessly with SWC target loads, has a nice trigger, and just simply worked.

The fellow I bought it from has an option to buy it back. He needed some extra cash, and I was feeling generous. The good news is if he doesn't buy it back, it's a nice little gun.

I have an old metal 3 pounder of W-231. I wonder if the price tag is on it. I bought 4 of them for a deal some time back.

I have a metal 5 pounder of 700X with a $50 tag on it, and a metal 1 pounder of W-296 at $14.95.

The first powder I ever bought in bulk was a paper bag of 700X. It was extra cheap. Came from an old reloader.

1 pound of powder was in the 11 or 12 dollar range when I started, and primers were 8 to 10 per K.

There are folks here who go way back, and can remember even better prices.

I have Winchester Staynless primers with a .19 cent price tag on them, plus a 1,000 sleeve with $6.70 marked on it. When I first started reloading in 1963, paper bags of surplus IMR 4831 were .35 cents a pound. You could also take your own container, which was usually a 3 pound coffee can (back when they actually held 3 pounds!) to the reloading shop and they would fill it from their bulk barrels. I remember that SR 4756 was about .40 cents a pound in bulk, since it was new production.

I also bought an M1 Garand for $89.95 in 1963 and had to put it on lay-away, and it took me about 3 months to pay it off. I sold that rifle a few years later for $115.00 and thought I had made a killing. Oh, and it was an all original Springfield that had never gone through a rebuild and had British proofmarks on it. Sure wish I'd never sold it, but with a budding young family, I needed the cash for a good hunting rifle, which turned out to be a Browning BAR in .30-06 that I bought new in 1969 for $167.00, including a scope, rings and sling. I still have that rifle and took an elk with it a few years ago.

Of course it's all relative, since I was working for the phone company in 1963 for $1.72 an hour and thought I was in tall cotton. All previous jobs had paid either $1.25 an hour or $1.35 an hour while in college. When I retired 17 years ago, I was making .50 cents a minute and the people doing my old job now are making twice that.

Hope this helps.

Fred

Walkalong - you got that right!

I was REALLY hoping Cabela's sale on CCI 500s is because they're learnin we won't pay exorbitant prices.
I've seen em as high as $40/k.
But this past week Cabela's had em for $24.99 (dang right I bought a bunch) :D

I see their price today is back up to $37.99 :fire: :cuss:

I sure wish The $20/K primer days would come back let alone $10/K primers. I don't now how old they are but I can say they are from a time long forgotten...

ArchAngel, if you order enough to justify the shipping, you can get large rifle, small rifle, large pistol and small pistol for $16 or less per 1k from Powder Valley.

Thank you and yes, I know full well about Powder Valley. We became very good friends many years ago!! ;)

Right now I really don't need primers. I was lucky enough to be able to stock up just before the "shortage" hit...

Thanks again for the info...

I would pay 40.00 per k on primers.
Our only local shop has any size rifle or shotgun 7.99 per 100.
special every day 80.00 per thousand

Where do you live that primers are still selling for $80/K? Last time they cost that much here was at the height of the "shortage".
