I e-mailed Wolf and they replied "We have no SP primers coming in the near future". That was it. Anyone have lesser expensive source for small pistol primers?
TIA

Powder Valley. They were running a special on CCI, but that might have ended after the holidays.

Or you can use their regular small rifle primers. Those will work. Just be careful not to get the small rifle magnum primers because the cups will be too hard to set off in a handgun.

After some reloaders experienced primer ignition issues in 2010 with Wolf SP primers (silver/nickel colored primer cups) with the claim of harder primer cup (not with Wolf LP bronze/brass colered cups), Wolf SP kinda disappeared from the market place/gun shows.

In 2011 another brand called "TulAmmo" began selling primers and loaded ammunition in the USA. As far as I know, both Wolf and TulAmmo (or "Tula" called by many) are manufactured in the same Murom munitions plant in Russia. I am not sure but some PMC primers (at least the Non-Toxic primers) may also be manufactured in the same plant under contract for now Korean owned PMC.

Unless you can find some "new old stock" (NOS) Wolf SP primers, your best bet may be buying Tula SP primers, which in my opinion, is essentially the same.

Tula SP primers have the same problem as newer-stock Wolf SP primers. Get Wolf SR primers (odd copper color) instead. No problems with either brand of LP primers.

I recently bought a bunch of CCI primers from Graf's. $100 per case if you have a FFL on file. $115 per case if you don't, and that might qualify for reduced shipping charges.

Has anyone else tried using small rifle in handgun loads? I have always woundered about that.

Yes, I use Wolf SR primers when I load .357 Magnum. When I first started out reloading I bought Federal SR's and used them in both .30 Carbine and 9mm because I didn't want to have 2 different type primers that looked just alike. (I was afraid I might get them mixed up and use SP primers in the .30)
