Anaconda 1st edition questions

I did some googling on this gun but there was really nothing on the first edition, just Anacondas in general. Besides looking really nice with its high polish steel can any collector provide some info as to scarcity, current price (L/NIB), history etc. Are the 6" and 8" out in equal number? The ones in excellent condition don't seem to pop up very often...

I don't know if this applied to 1st edition, found on Wikipedia.

When originally introduced Anacondas were plagued with poor accuracy, but changes to the barrels quickly corrected the problems to the point that Colt billed its new pistol as among the most accurate .44 Magnum revolvers in production.

Thanks I already read all of that. I did find a recent sale on GB where the NIB set went for $2,990 so this has got to be a pretty rare collectors item.

For those that have not seen one of these here is a nice pic. Kinda like a nickel python only much, much rarer. I must have.

:ess than a year ago, I turned down one unfired in the box priced at $1800.
Looking back that was probably a mistake.

BTW I posted this same thread on the Colt forum website as well expecting a boatload of feedback but strangely not one answer yet? Are they all asleep over there :)

Maybe, but I bought two boxed non-first edition guns for not much more money. I've enjoyed shooting them more than I would having one gun as an investment piece locked in a safe.

I agree completely. And, on top of that, it isn't difficult to polish a regular Anaconda to mirror finish if you like 1st edition looks. Then again, I don't have guns I don't shoot, no matter how rare or collectible they might be. Doing otherwise would be like dating Jessica Alba and sleeping on the couch. ;)

well, not wanting to be mr. smarty pants, but there are folks that have guns for shooting AND guns for collecting. you being in finland might only be able to legally own 2 handguns like in germany. secondly, what you are saying about the 1st edition is totally lame. its like saying if you want a python take a trooper and drill some holes into the rib to make it look like a python.

This conversation might be a bit more constructive if you made sure you have your facts straight before you post. In Finland there has never been a limit on the number of guns you can own. There's no legislative or artificial need to shoot what you might have at hand. Some people shoot, some people collect. I shoot guns I collect. Telling other people what they should or should not do with their property has a bit of a socialist flavor to it, don't you think?

However, what I referred to was cosmetics, ie. polishing a regular Anaconda. "1st edition looks", if an exact word for word quote from the post you replied to is needed. I don't know where you got the idea of passing just another polished gun as some kind of a fake collectible, which it isn't.
