I've never heard of this round before and am wondering how it compares to the 6.5x55 Swede. Can anyone tell me anything about this round and maybe how it compares to the 55?
 
Yeah the 6.5x65 is closer to the 06 case capasity. It is a beast for sure. I would personaly rather build a 6.5-06 or 6.5-284 simply due to the availability of brass, but to each his own.
 
You can get them, but be prepared take out a home equity loan to pay for them. (I freelanced for Dynamit Nobel once upon a time, and RWS ammuntion costs,even for common calibers...)

Factory loads appear to be available only from RWS. The two 6.5x65 loads I was able to discover are a 108 grain soft point spitzer bullet at a muzzle velocity (MV) of 3460 fps and muzzle energy (ME) of 2260 ft. lbs., and a 127 grain soft point spitzer bullet at a MV of 3313 fps and ME of 2442 ft. lbs.

Natchez has brass in stock at closeout prices, if you're determined to consider it.

It's similar to the 6.5-06, but does appear to have more case capacity than the '06 case, with ballistics in the 264 Win Mag class, and likely a barrel burner.

Closing them out at $32.02 for a box of 20 unprimed cases! Imagine what a box of cartridges - loaded with those fancy RWS H-Mantel bullets - would cost.

Too rich for my blood, I'll stick with 6.5x55 with super cheap high quality brass, and several thousand round barrel life.
 
If you NEED the extra zap, you could always go to the .264, or the 6.5-06. They are handloader propositions for the most part, but then so is a x65, and so is the Swede here (48 bucks a box).
 
I pay $13.50 a box for 139gr SP 6.5x55 ammo. That is cheaper then 270 win and 30-06 ammo by a good margin. Only crappy steel case 308 FMJs come out cheeper.
 
Yeah, ammo is majorly expensive (notice i didnt say over priced) out here. .223 pmcs are 10-14 bucks a box, .22lr is 30 a brick....243 and .30-06 at kmart is 15..best deal around LOL.
