Rimfire Soft Drink Match:

Welcome to the Rimfire Match for the month of February! This match is open to any and every 22 caliber (as well as 17 and 20 caliber) rimfire rifle including the perennial favorite .22LR, as well as the .22Short, .22Long, .22 Mag., .17HM2, .17HMR, and 5mm Rem RF Mag (as well as any oddball rimfires that you might have). This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.


There are Two Optics Divisions:
->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 50yds.

*Note that the distance is back to our typical range of 25/50.

There are Two Rifle Classes:
->Unlimited/Target Rifles (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, sub-.20cal. chamberings, high magnification optics- over 10x [in the appropriate division] may be used)
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles chambered for any rimfire cartridge .20cal./5mm and larger)

Both classes can be shot from any position. Rests/Sandbags/bipods are permitted in the Target Class only. Shooting stick(s) are now permitted for both classes (either crossed or walking stick style). Use of a sling is encouraged.


25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See image in the link below. Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper. The objective is to fire one shot at each soft drink (commonly referred to as soda or pop by ya'll Yanks) containment device. Growing up in NC, the chosen brand was a natural choice (they'd run me out of the state for choosing anything other than Cheerwine, Sundrop, or perhaps Royal Crown). Scored as one point for busting each can/bottle (cutting the edge), and two for a shot lying completely within the oval label for a total possible score of 30pts. BTW, you might want to work your way from the top down to prevent toppling the pyramid.

50 Yd. (Optics) Target: Same as above.

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with as much of the following information as possible: Forum name (or name you want posted in the results), Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo, Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different division/class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated. We'll give you an extra day (leap/election year) and make all submissions due by 23:59 February 29th this time around.

Leaderboard Mk. I:

I figured that I would make it a bit easier after last month's somewhat challenging target. In the process I think I might have made it just about impossible to miss.

I don't know how well it would work for a walking stick, but I have been using 4 tent poles shock-corded together (two for each side) and that seems to make a good, compact, lightweight, inexpensive (free if you're like me have old poles lying around) rest. Nothing special, but passable for any instance that I've come across for hunting.

You couldn't have done much worse than myself, a 13/35...anyway this one should be far less challenging. I expect to see several aced targets this time around.

Figured that might be a problem with irons, but I wanted to have a good many targets to make it a mite bit more difficult. If you'd like, feel free to add a black "X" or circle to better differentiate the individual targets.

I find it best to open in Microsoft Office Picture Manager go to print, select Full Page Photo and deselect Fit Picture to Frame. I'll convert it to a .PDF later this afternoon to make printing a bit easier.

Sounds good, but just in case others have a similar problem and haven't the software to make it work, I attached a .pdf of the target.

BCRider, it looks as if you started a forest fire. You must have had the ole smoke pole going at a pretty fair clip.

Thanks for getting us started, sixgunner455! Barring a convincing argument to the contrary, I think counting the higher score (in the case of your first target) is perfectly acceptable. As far as the second one, all the bottom cans show pretty clear hits from what I can see.

I'd participate, but I just can't bear the thought of desecrating Cheerwine.. Can I get a Pepsi target or something??

They're empty...I drank the Cheerwine and added colored water figuring that nobody would notice.
