10mm 1911

Your choices are rather limited - Colt, Kimber, Dan Wesson, STI. Probably looking at around $1K. Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup and Auto Ordnance 10mm are the 2 1911 models I've got. Gold Cups are the bomb.

I love it, but had to take up reloading as a result. Bought the new model colt delta elite from a fellow member. I had an older model years back, and always preferred it to any other gun or round.

Get one! You'll love it. Here's my Delta shooting some 175gr Winchester Silver Tip. It's far from some of the craziest loads out there, but it's about as good as the big ammo makers produce these days.

i bought a used kimber eclipse 2 for 850.00 last fall, just got a cbob for 1200.00, both off local trade boards. oh, and a lee turret press to load for it. good ammo like double tap is 1.00 a pop.

The Dan Wesson Razorback is sweet if you can swing the bucks.

I have several Colts and they get the job done too.

$600 10MM = Glock

Obviously not. Point being a 1911 in 10MM UNDER $600 does not exist. At least I have not found one. You might get lucky though.

I know Para Ordnance unveiled their long hunter 6" double stack 1911 in 10mm at SHOT this year.

I'd like to get a lot of work done on mine.

Let me ask you a question that's none of my business. For all that you had done to that one, did you stick with the original recoil spring system, or did you pick something else?

i made some posts on this before with no real answers, the cbob i bought made in 07 doesn't have a ramped barrel, they started putting ramped barrels on them in 08. the kimber has a ramped barrel. im pretty sure the delta isn't ramped. why ramped or un-ramped even on the same gun. i don't buy the "well its just stronger" because the other 3/4's of the barrel isn't re-inforced. ive e-mailed dan-cz twice with no answer and been on hold and left messages with no answer. i'm beginning to wonder if anyone really has a definitive answer?

No, and the Germans didn't bomb Pearl Harbor either.

It is a ways down on the list, but eventually I want to get a Fusion kit for a 10mm long-slide.

Instead of having a chamber that the whole case is down inside of (minus the rim), lots of autopistol chambers will have a little ramp carved into the chamber, so that part of the cartridge is no longer completely boxed in by the chamber--that is an "unramped" barrel, which they also say has an "unsupported chamber." In a typical 1911, this works as an extension to the feed-ramp that is cut into the, what, frame? But that ramp is not attached to the chamber, which moves around when the gun unlocks--since the barrel (which the chamber is a part of) doesn't have the real ramp attached to it, it's "unramped." Now a ramped 1911 barrel has the entire ramp attached to the chamber, and no ramp cut into the frame.

When you touch a round off, the expanding gasses inside the cartridge cause the case's wall to expand outward until it is stopped by the wall of the chamber. However, if you have one of these chambers with a ramp cut into it, the part of the case that isn't boxed in puffs out. The area that puffs out gets thinner and weaker, until maybe it pops, like a balloon. The hotter the load, the more the brass is gonna puff out.

Glocks have (or had, until a few years ago) unsupported chambers too, and when people shoot hot 10mm ammo in them, the fired brass has a "smiley face" where the brass has started to puff out through the ramp that cuts into the chamber.

This a Delta Elite manufactured a few months ago.

I sure wouldn't say it's ramped. Kind of a reverse crowning effect on the bottom 2/3rds.

For me, personally, I won't shoot anything other than maybe the Remington UMC 180s in it. But that's just me.

This one never fired. Just took it apart for the first time. I guess I expected some elaborate recoil system. Heck, that's just a spring inside of a spring.

He does great work, but as I understand he has quite a backlog right now.

Mine has a ton of things changed on it, but I stuck with the stock recoil setup.

As someone else has already said, you're not going to find a 10mm 1911 for $600 or less. It just ain't happening. You MIGHT find one for under $800 if you're lucky and stumble on to one early. A reasonably priced used 10mm 1911 gets snatched up very quickly. And 10mm 1911 can be a little tricky and have issues, so I'd be very leery of one priced at $600 or less anyway. Budget 10mm 1911, there just isn't any such thing.

With the 10 mm I prefer a fully suported chamber.

My Kimber Stainless Target II was $899 amd I'm sure you'll pay that for any new Kimber 10mm. Mine is flawless, shoots great, but I will say I've only shot reloads and don't load them hot.

Ya it's to bad no one makes a 1911 in 10mm for 600 bucks or I'm sure i'd own one to.

In the 600 dollar price range I would probably pick up a Witness or maybe a Witness Elite there based on the CZ design which I really like the only thing that worries me is EAA themselves.

i KNOW what ramped or not IS, that was not my question, the delta shown is NOT ramped, just like my 07 cbob. i just want to know why dan/cz went from un ramped to ramped mid stream, even the ramped barrels have some cut out under the cartridge too.
