Midway has Hornady Z-max bullets going pretty cheap right now. AFAIK, all they are is a V-max with a puke green tip. At $60/500 for 20 gr. .17 cal and $65/500 for 50 gr. BT .224, seems like a good buy to me! They have 32 gr. .204, 40 gr., 55 gr. and 58 gr. .224 as well.

It doesn't look like a sale price on the .224 but they are cheaper then V-Max.

They are different. I believe the differences lay in the way the jackets are formed. I'm sure if the z Max is cheaper...the process is cheaper to produce them. The best test is to try them to see if your gun likes them.

Diff than amax. Better bc. Same as varmint. Who really knows. All i know is the new hornady steel case may be a great 1000shot round purchase. Hasto be above tull and wolf and the price is nice. I want to see how accurate it is in my rifles.

@kingmt - You must shoot at my range. It is near a miracle if I find any brass. Place is filled w/ steel casings. At best I find some 9mm brass (which I can actually do reload) and 40 S/W (which I don't).

Can the economy please fix itself so people will start shooting (and leaving) brass casings?

The Z-Max and V-Max bullets are exactly the same but for the color of the polymer tip. They changed the color to sell Zombie ammo, they didn't develop a whole new bullet.

I bought 2 boxes of 500 55gr .224" Z-Max bullets from my local shop. That should be a good supply for a bolt action rifle... BTW, inside the box there are 2 plastic bags with 250 bullets in each.

Got confirmation from hornady that both bullets are the same....just different colored tips.
