NEW AR15 thread

How do you like the magpul acs stock vs. the ace skeleton stock? Trying to decide right now on which one to put on a build.

OP, you forgot to list what uppers/lowers/add-ons/accessories/optics you be running. Well, maybe not uppers/lowers (no sense in starting a pissing contest) but what optics do you run mostly? Are those Aimpoints, or the Aimpoint clones/step-brother e.g. Vortex Strikefire?

Here are some pictures of my Spike's Tactical AR-15. I am still playing around with various different configurations and am open to comments/opinions. It currently sits with the standard hand guard that came with the rifle.

any sugestions for sights?

I like my aimpoint T1. I believe it is in many ways the cream of the crop. If I wanted to save money I'd look at an aimpoint pro.

thanks for the input

i like the price tag on the bushnell trs, i will also check out aim point pro.
thanks guys i will check back on this thread tomorrow, well later today
the ar i will be putting the optics on is a new panther 5.56 nato sportical
as i said earlier i am new to ar,s so the price was right and i like the gun it shoots great with a 4 - 32 i have on it now.
i put it on just to get a feel for the rifle. i love my ak,s but this is a great little coyote zapper i know allot of people down the sportical for not having a dust cover/forward assist but i am just going to the range or setting on a 500acre cattle farm killing coyotes we have way too many coy dogs getting to our calfs
plus its a blast with the ar platform its lite and short easy to carry on the farm

thanks guys

Those AFG's are all WAY forward of where I'd put them.

I have 2 so far. A Colt and a CMMG/New Frontier dedicated .22.

Take 'em out, get 'em dirty. (Colt upper on a New Frontier Lower)

Heh yeah I was thinking you must have arms like a Sasquatch to use those afgs. I'm 6.5 and mine are several notches closer

Nice rifles though. Have you shot them much? Make them all at the same time?

I'll play, so far I have two. One is a standard 20" DPMS that I am slowly turning in to a match rifle. The other is a 16" mid-length with a .223 wylde chamber 1-8 twist, mostly PSA parts. The optic is a 1-4 Mueller Speedshot.

how do you like the dpms long barrel? i am thinking about ordering one as my panther is a m4 style

Both my afgs are mounted forward. it makes for a faster swing. Also I have Troy exteme forends that are 15" on my primary 16" ars.

Location of "hangy ony" things is where they work best for the user.

Cheers,

ts

Those AFG's are all WAY forward of where I'd put them.

They are intended for a certain kind of stance, support hand way way forward, head down and body squared. I'm 5'7" or so and my support hand naturally falls just past the gas block on a carbine length system.

I like this little fella bunches.

what kind is it?

It's a mongrel.

SBR lower, an early M&P15. Non-ramped barrel and upper. Barrel is a medium profile 11.5" 1/7 twist. Muzzle device is a PWS CQB comp, gas block is VLTOR.
Forearm is a modular Troy TRX-E 11". Magpul AFG1 to keep me from shooting my finger off. I like the AFG1 better than the AFG2.
Badger charging handle with RTV silicone "gas buster"
Troy front and rear sights, EoTech, no riser and absolute co-witness.
Lower has a LPK that I found in my sock drawer, MagPul trigger guard and MIAD grip.
Stock is a RRA "entry" stock with a Troy ambi QD sling swivel. This adds 1/4" to the LOP and makes it perfect. I don't like adjustable stocks, just put one on that is the correct length for the intended use and forget about it. H2 buffer.
I've dyed most of my P-mags that brick color (sunshine orange actually) so I won't lose them. :D

I originally built this as a dedicated HD rifle, hence the fat barrel and the enormous PWS dogknot, weight was a non-issue. But there was a certain synergy in the way it handled and shot so it ended up doing yoeman duty. I drag it around most everywhere now.

I've killed half a dozen or so coyotes with it, accuracy is quite good, it will keep 10 rounds of BH 77gr OTM under 2 inches.

mongril samcade

i just purchased my first ar a dpms panther sportical, i know its not a daniel defense or a colt but i like it and it shoots good to me considering im a ak47 fan
i see all of the stuff you guys here on the forum have done with your ar,s and i get allot of ideas very impressive rifle you have mine is a coyote killer too:D

Slightly dated pictures. I run an M40-style knob with windage stop now. Someone will probably complain I could buy 10 budget ARs for the price of an SPR but meh :neener:
