CBX has wanted to find good partners and we have. KK's Walt Kirst is a ROA enthusiast and his personal C&B is an ROA worked over and streamlined to be a lot closer to a Remington than the original - very nice!

If you've never seen the work that's come out of the Raven's Roost, you're in for a treat.

Over time, we're going to expand that 'cottage industry' for the ROA to the original CBX vision. Having an ROA is kind of like having a Malibu SS. No, it's not a Ferrari, but what you can make of it can be just about anything you want. Most of those things, you can do yourself and we expect to make that possible. It just doesn't take up as much room as a '69 SS 396, so you can have a lot of them. Pity those poor folks keeping them as 'new, unfired' cabinet guns!

The ROA will do some things that defy all the street corner logic everyone thinks he knew about revolvers. We understand why folks have other C&B revolvers, but it's kind of hard to understand why anyone would use something else.

Well, ROAs are HUGE and HEAVY. I don't have a 5.5" version with plain sights, though, would love to have one, getting WAY expensive. I find my 5" '58 Remmy Pietta to be pretty accurate and a lot easier to tote in the field. BUT, the ROA is hands down the best shooting cap and ball I've ever owned and it doesn't seem to care what it's loaded with, is always danged accurate!

Cottage industry is a good thing. I would like to get another stainless ROA even if just a 7.5" adjustable sight model, but right now only have my blued one. The stainless one got ripped off in a home invasion years ago when I was at work. Bummer. One thing I'd like to get is A TALLER FRIGGIN' FRONT SIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never contacted Ruger about it, don't know if I can get one, should look in to that. I just compensate by lowering the blade and taking a "fine bead" as my grandpa used to say.

I've never really wanted a conversion cylinder for the gun. I own a very good shooting .45 Colt Blackhawk with a 4 5/8" barrel. I can't see the ROA besting that gun in any way where cartridges are involved. I'd LIKE to see affordable spare cylinders, though. The ones for my Piettas are 50 bucks a pop. I can afford that. That's kinda one reason I like the replicas, CHEAP and effective. Those little Piettas astound me with their quality for no more than Cabelas sells 'em for. I see one on sale and, well, I go into debt for a while. :banghead: DAMN those Cabela's people!!!!!

Because the Ruger Old Army holds absolutely no appeal for me. Believe it or not, we don't all have to like and/or use the same things. I 'have' Colt pattern C&B pistols, as well as cartridge conversions AND use them. Often. Because I like them better.

If I want to shoot a Ruger single action that uses metallic cartridges, I'll pick up a Blackhawk. Of which I have many.

Ruger does sell a taller front sight. As much as I like the Old Army for it's accuracy, I find it way too big and heavy. My 5.5" 1858 is just as accurate and much easier to tote.

I like the ROA, if anyone regrets their purchase of their lousy ROA please let me know and maybe we can work out a deal to relieve one of the POS for a reasonable $$$.

Tell me about the advantages of the CBX cylinder?
Since '73 I've known that if it came down to owning one pistol which one it would be, the
Rhino to rabbit ROA.

I'd love to find some BIG wood grips for my ROA. It's hard to practice good trigger-finger discipline because my index finger hits the trigger guard. I need a grip that will move my hand a little further back but I'm not into the look of the rubber grips.

Look for new model Blackhawk grips, they fit the ROA, I like a larger grip and have Taylor grips on mine. They can usually be found relatively cheap on Ebay.

Classic Ballistx Cylinders

Hi all,

Just got two of the new satin stainless cylinders from Ed & Wisent. Good quality, well machined, and fit perfectly. Dropped right in and indexed correctly. I like'em!

So who is working on a knurled, finger-removable base pin retaining pin? I'd buy several ...

So PM me with an email address, and I'll add my voice to the mix. I'd buy at least two out of the gate, and probably three or four.

Sent 'em a note. Here's what I said ...

I'm interested in ordering a knurled base pin for a Ruger Old Army. Two, actually; one stainless, another blued. I don't see blue as an option on your website. Am I missing something? Also, your order form doesn't have a spot for the ROA base pins. Just write it in?

Also, I would be VERY interested in purchasing a base pin RETAINING pin that is a bit longer in the head and knurled so that it can be removed from the gun without the aid of a tool. This would seem to be a nice addition to your line, since your knurled base pin is used with conversion cylinders. Since one has to pull the cylinder to reload it, providing a base pin retaining pin that can be removed by hand (without the aid of a tool) would be a perfect pair ... might even sell 'em that way!

I keep my retaining pin turned when I use a conversion cylinder with my Belt Mountain base pin. Arcticap told me my pistol was the tightest ROA he's ever handled and I agree, it's a wresting match to get the pin out.

Wow, well, finally got around to calling Ruger about a taller front sight. They're sending one free of charge. Super! No more funky sight picture.

Sorry if earlier posts sounded like me dissin' the gun, just pointing out a few things folks might NOT like about the gun. Mine out shoots my Remmy and all other cap and ball guns and even some of my cartridge guns. I know of no cap and ball revolver that shoots as accurately, none. With the new sight, I might shrink those groups a tad, too. The thing IS heavy and as I've pointed out, my 5.5" Pietta Remmy IS pretty accurate and a lot handier, but I don't carry cap and ball guns in the field, much. They're mostly range toys.

Damn, well, the elation is over. I went and got my gun out and looked at it. That sight won't work. There is no pin holding my sight on, must be soldered to the barrel or something. A smith would have to fix it. Bummer. I guess I'll just keep shooting it the way I have been.

The SS one I've got has the sight held on with a roll pin (which I replaced with a threaded screw). I made my own Patridge sight out of a piece of steel bar stock.

I'll stash the sight. I may need it someday if I buy another ROA.

Mk VII; Sounds like I have the same gun. Would you please post some pics of your modification?

MCgunner, you can get an extra rear sight blade and then file the slot deeper and file the top of the rear sight til you get the desired POA, the extra is if you file too much or want to sell it in the future. Even though mine have the roll pin, I tried the filing and it worked for both of mine.
