My girlfriends gun..advice?

Ok so I'm trying to convince my gf to get a gun...and there's a list of things she wants in it...... She's only shot 1 pistol..and she is absolutely I love with that gun


I took her out 4 months ago in the woods with a buddy of mine and went shooting... Black powder,.22,.284,30-30,12 gauge.

She can handle a good kick and she loves the shotgun....

Then my buddy pulled out a norinco 1911 45acp

I unloaded a clip all but 1 round and ejected it droped the magazine threw it in the magazine and gave it to her... I told her to insert the magazine,finger off the trigger, point the gun in a safe direction, pull back the slide and showed her were the safety was and said "when your ready to fire take turn the safety to the off position and place your finger on the trigger when ur ready to shoot and squeeze gently."

She had her eyes closed afraid to pull thinking it was gunna pop back and hit her in the face.. After convincing her it wouldn't. She took the shot.....and then smiled so big and laughed and quickly asked for a full clip.

7 clips later......

She tells me it's the funniest thing she's ever shot and she wants one.....

Exactly like it... A 1911 45acp

But....

She wants it alll black with dark purple pistol grips that have a black j on them...

Dollar signs r just rolling thru my head..as I don't even own a pistol and I'm currently saving for one and a bass amplifire.


I got 2 months untill he birthday..and really wanna keep the limit around $600

Since according to my paycheck minus the bills, and other stuff..that's all I could afford.

I don't want to skimp out on quality..and she likes the colt defender and commanders...the 3 inch barrel I think? But the rest is full size... But either one would be fine...

Anybody know how I can go about this? I plan on getting everything set for it. And then giving her all the information to order it in her name.. Using my money of course lol


And ideas or am I f&$@&. ???


Maby. MABY I'll do a Glock 21 but she loves the 1911



And she dosent hav small hands and she's not petit...
 
Don't go with the Glock. Why? Because she wants a 1911. Also, the Glock's grip will be HUGE compared to the 1911.

Also, you will not find a reliable 3" 1911 with your budget, and the 3" and commander models will recoil more than a full-size.


Stick with a full-size 1911. Springfield has a base model for about $525 I believe, and find some nice VZ grips (about $65) and make her happy.

Either the Springfield Armory or a Rock Island Armory should fit the ticket. That should leave you enough for a set of grips with the letter inscribed...I'm thinking aluminum
 
RIA of some flavor, CS tactical, MS, FS ... they're good stuff and their US distributor is in NV (Pahrump {sp?}) and most of their models are parkerized to start with.

Add Alumagrips, I'd go with slimline - they're reportedly easy to paint and the company makes a style with a big spot in the middle to put an inscription.
 
The Rock Island Armory compact 1911's are great, and they only cost like $450. After that, buy some dura-coat (or Cere-koat), paint it black (cue music), take the grips that come with the pistol, engrave then with a big J, then give the grips a coat of purple duracoat or the like. Then, use a fine brush, and paint in the J with black. Less than $550, and it's a great 1911. And you get man points you can cash in, which is even better ;)
 
Forgot to add: if she wants a full size 1911, the Rock Island Armory 1911A1 pistols can be had for even less, $375. And they are SUPERB. If she wants a full size, get her that.
 
I'd highly recommend a full sized...or at least a Commander size...as a first 1911. It offers the largest window of functionality

There's your answer. Stop overthinking this.

Your wife wants own gun. Wife wants specific gun. Get her gun of choice. So easy, can express in russian, if I could speak Russian!

As people here have shown you a RIA or SA will fit your budget. As to Aluminium grips ... I have a set and they work quite well. They cost 60 bucks with some mild customization. Alumagrips is the brandname.
 
Yep, I love me some alumagrips, mine are sort of a faded WWII olive drab color and I think they go well with a Parkerized finish. I liked them so much that I ordered a second set for my second 1911, and put the fancy Wilson Combat grips back in the parts drawer. (just the grips, no I don't have a WC gun)

It would blow your budget, but RIA has a new thing out called the XT22, it is a standard Government-sized .45acp frame with a .22 conversion mounted, and you can get it with the .45 upper as well. It would pay for itself in ammunition costs in a few years (faster with more shooting!) because you'd have a solid .45acp traditional 1911 AND a .22lr plinker using the same fire-control components, grip, trigger, etc etc

roughly $0.40/round for cheap plinking .45acp (and don't forget $1/round for good defensive ammo)
vs.
roughly $0.10/round for nice .22lr, less for cheapo bulk

Thanks guys.. That's a big help... Ria. Sounds really good and I've herd great things about them... I think I'll stick with full size... If she shoot it enought eventualy throw on the original grips trade it in and save more money to get a commander model down the road..

Has only been shooting twice in her life.. And she seems really happy when she dose it. Lol

So if figured this would peek her interest more.

And maby give me an excuse to buy more guns lol

Hey, life is going to be about making your girl happy. Make her happy, she makes you happy. The good thing about her enjoying shooting, is that you will enjoy her shooting with you even more than she will, and she is loving it!

11 posts...we're getting slow.

Just make sure to inspect that RIA pistol closely. Make sure someone didn't fit the mainspring housing with a chisel and hammer (the last RIA I looked at was not well assembled).
 
You could have here try an EAA Witness Elite Match. It is single action, full size and you can change calibers from 22LR-10mm. I like the way it fits my hand better than the 1911, but thats just me.
 
Shoot many; buy one. Many ranges rent guns and sell ammunition.

My wife's first gun purchase was a Glock 26 and she loves it. She happens to be married to someone who has plenty of different ones to try and after shooting my G27 with 40-9 Lone Wolf conversion barrel she bought the 26.

Now she wants a BHP (9x19) because she likes mine. Only thing holding her back is cost which is slowly losing the battle there.

She's also wanting to shoot my KP-90 and G30SF again. I suspect she's wanting to own basically one of each in the "basic" calibers: .22LR (bought a Ruger Mark III after shooting my Mark II), 9x19, 40 S&W (she likes my G23) and 45 ACP.

When will it end? Lordy ... when will it end??? :cool:
 
If she likes the 1911, get one, and then get a .22LR conversion kit for it. She will appreciate the fun of target shooting, and plinking with it, plus she can shoot more due to the much lower ammo costs.
 
I picked up a RIA at the beginning of this month for roughly about $445. I couldn't have done better for the money spent. So far its been flawless with a little over 300rds through it, and where i got mine they also had one in 9 as well. Just suggesting the 9 since it would be her first gun and ammo cost. (but gotta love the 45 :cool:)
 
A simple no on Glock 21. Anyone who adores 1911 would have a problem a .45ACP caliber Glock in general. The thick size is usually a turn off.

Take care of the dark purple grips and slap them on a DW V-Bob.

It's worth having her try, but a woman wants what she wants. Get her what she wants & live happily!

I don't think so. One of my first guns was a 1911 and after over 30 years of shooting it regularly I bought a Glock 30. No biggie to switch back and forth. I can do the same amongst my bicycle, motorcycle and truck. The idea that after shooting one gun you can't shoot another well is just crazy. If that were true, none of us would own more than one gun in any caliber and I can assure you that's not right.
 
If she wants the 1911, pinch some pennies and get a good solid 1911 like an STI Spartan, Springfield GI, Springfield Mil-Spec, or if you do some searching, a Springfield Range Officer.

Don't go get a Glock 21 SF or something of the like without her having shot it first.

I shoot very well with my 1911s, Sigs, HKs, S&Ws and Walther's, but I have a little bit of trouble with Glocks due to the vastly different ergos which are a byproduct of the grip (angle and cut as compared to the others).

In any event, when buying a 1911, be sure to give it a good looking over whether new or used.

ku4hx, if you have larger hands, it won't be much of a problem. However, I have found that shooters with smaller hands do have problems with the Glock 21 (even the SF version). I don't know for sure that the OP's girlfriend has small hands, but it is typically a safe assumption (one of the few) with women ;)
