I called Smith and Wesson a few days and I asked If they're ever going to make 10mm M&P pistol the guy said that they're noticing that the 10mm is growing in popularity and that some Police departments are interested in getting a limited amount of 10mm M&Ps. They are currently testing a prototype and so far it looks very promising, the guy told me "Lets just say it'll give Glock a very good run for his money" and that it's possible that we see a 10mm M&P at the next shot show...:what:

I would seriously consider buying one of those. 10mm is one of my favorite rounds, and probably my favorite auto round. I have a G20 and G29 as well as a 310NG and 610-3. Wouldn't be such a fan were it not for reloading.

That would be interesting.

Last time I was discussing this subject with a LE rep, he said the problem was the lack of sales consistently being reported by the big name ammo companies for 10mm. Maybe they're finally considering the number of handloaders and the increasing availability of the small custom-type ammo companies might offset the sales of the big companies for this niche caliber.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were some scattered (meaning small) interest in a 10mm for specialized LE use, but I've not yet run into any other instructors or armorers for agencies running G20's, myself.

Anyway, the rep is a 1911 fan, and he said he'd been hoping for a SW1911 chambered in 10mm at some point, himself. He said there were some shooters at the company that wouldn't mind seeing the return of a S&W 10mm, too.

You'd think the M&P platform wouldn't be that hard to chamber in 10mm, though, especially since the frame is beefed up with the steel straps molded into it (the sub-chassis), and the fact that the straps are connected to each other via the steel coil pins at each end, held in the steel LB & sear housing, pretty much forming a steel "box" to help mitigate recoil forces in the plastic frame.

That ought to make for a very strong plastic pistol to run 10mm. ;)

Let's hope something appears a little down the road.

I always wished Ruger would have offered at least some limited runs of their KP90 in the originally planned 10mm chambering, myself. Another workhorse pistol.

If it came with "drop in" .40S&W barrel and Mag as extra I could be easily convinced to buy one.

My M&P .40 is a great gun... but I'd likely have gone with a 10mm if one had been available instead.

I kind of hope they DON'T release one... I've got enough on my "to buy" list as it is ;).

Too bad.

I was thinking back to my conversations with reps, customer service, repair techs and company armorer/training folks regarding the potential for making a 10mm again ... and how the only 2 reasonably viable platforms that might be used (since the 3rd gens aren't coming back) would be the M&P and the SW1911. One rep thought the 1911 would be the most practical choice (and relatively easy to do, although it would cut into CNC time).

He said their engineers simply had too many potential projects in mind they'd like to do in the M&P pistol line, and the popularity and huge demand for the existing models were even slowing those new projects down. A 10mm in the M&P would be nice, and probably not hard to do, but it seems that their marketing studies just didn't show that a 10mm might sell in as significant of numbers as other calibers.

Nice thought, though, huh? ;)

I know I'd be intersted in one! The Glock 20 is on my list and may be the next or so gun I buy. I like to have more than one gun of a particular caliber if I'm going to reload for that caliber.

Uh, guys, it's a stupid April Fools joke. No such conversation existed.

April fools aside, they'd sell if they built them. The recent resurgence of the chambering combined with the M&P's popularity, I expect it would be a profitable venture. I'd certainly buy one. I have a G20, but it'd be nice to have a knock-around 10mm I actually liked.

The only problem with most 10mm pistols is that they're steel and are foolishly built using inferior frames. You can't necessarily shoot a lot of 10mm in a frame made for .45: it's got a much higher pressure threshold.

One of the reasons the Glock's handle 10mm so easily -without- having frame cracking issues: the plastic absorbs the excess energy by bending and flexing a bit.

10mm is -definitely- my favorite auto cartridge though. .41 magnum in a very high capacity magazine auto pistol? Um, yes please. There are only 2 cartridges Col. Jeff Cooper ever put his personal stamp of approval on: .45 ACP and 10mm Auto.

That would be way cool. I emailed Beretta about an all stainless 92 series in 10mm and they said no. I also emailed Kriss about a Super V in 10mm with an 8"bbl. They said no. Now that would be a smoker of a gun. With that long of a bbl, you'd probably be getting up around .44 mag balistics. Oh well.........Twas a bichin idea, but I couldn't afford it anyway.
