Kimber Solo

A good friend bought one about a month ago and loves it. Also, American Rifleman magazine gave it a very good review.

Really nice, really tiny 9mm, with a good feel to it. The early ones seemed to have some bugs, but I've not heard of any issues lately.

I say go for it.

If you can find one for under 1,000 -- the MSRP is $750.00, but I haven't seen one at that price, ever.

American Rifleman gives everything a good review.

Kimber... 1 year warranty... Kimber... for the price there are better options out there.

My LGS had them, $729, IIRC.
It's in stock where at that price? Your little google search did not help, as they are not in stock -- even at KGI, sure you can put it in a shopping cart but if they don't have one it doesn't mean anything.

If you can find one, swoop on it.

not sayin kimbers are not fine firearms just sayin don't believe everything you read in a magizine. a gunwriter is not going to give a bad review on a firearm from a manufacturer that supports the magizine through $$$(advertising, sponsering etc..) just the same don't believe everything you read on gun forums, most people come onto forums when they have aproblem with a firearm to see if it is a comman problem and what is the solution. most people if their firearm performs fine never post on forums.

I own one

Its not fun to shoot.

But it does what it was designed for.

I doubt your wife will like the recoil,I see that most women want a 'cute little gun' and then they actually shoot them and find that the FACT is the smaller the gun = the more experienced the shooter must be.

Remember to find NON + P ammo for a Solo as they dont like or advise + P ammo.

I made the mistake of shooting GDHP + P's and it was NOT FUN.

I have since gotten non + P ammo and much better, but still not fun.

I generally carry it as a BUG,so that means [ in my mind ] that if drawn its a life or death moment and I had better be REALLY good with it.

I would say a snub revolver is a MUCH better choice for a woman or a Ruger LC 9.

i wouldn't get one until i was sure i understood what kimber meant on this USE ONLY RECOMMENDED AMMUNITION section.

"use only premium hollow point ammunition". if they mean to imply that it won't reliably handle bulk FMJ, i wouldn't get it. i wouldn't buy a carry gun that i couldn't practice all i want with.

I'd have your wife rent one at the range, first. It's pretty small, so shooting 9mm our of it can't be much fun, and it may have too much recoil for her. I hear that the front strap not being checkered is a problem for most, and you need to regain a strong grip after a couple shots.

I got one around Christmas time, and I'm selling it. I LOVED it at first. It was easy to carry, comfortable, etc. However, my Husband reloads, and that gun HATED the reloads. We tried several different loads, and it hated them all. Out of a box of 50, I had 7 or 8 failures to eject. Now, I know, we weren't using the recommended premium hollow points, but I shouldn't have to just to go plink. I did have a failure to eject with the 124 grain Gold Dot Short Barrel ammo. I really lost confidence in it after that.

I think they have alot of potential, but I think the ejector on them is just too small...It was just too picky for me.

My Solo CDP surpassed the 3,000 round mark last week. It is my favorite cc weapon hands down. Contrary to others opinions I don't think the recoil is that bad.

Your wife will probably NOT like it!

Reliability concerns aside...the Solo has a snappy recoil that will probably cause your wife to hate it.
My wife has a Commander-size 1911 (.45), so she is not recoil-shy.
But she fired the Kimber Solo ONCE and said "no way!".
After shooting practically every true "purse pistol" on the planet she finally fell in love with the Sig P238. You might save a lot of time and exasperation by having your wife shoot one of these first!

Mike

FYI - I'm a woman, and I didn't think the recoil was that bad. I was looking at buying the extended magazine to help it out a bit, but I could shoot it without a problem. The reliability issues are what I couldn't handle.
