Greetings,

My Romak 8x scope front section got loose. It seems the scews threads got screwed...hehe....

Anyway, I had the wonderful idea to use gorilla superglue to glue the two pieces together. It looks rock solid. I use a lot of strenght with my hands and it did not come lose. Now I am wondering......

Will it whistand multiple recoils?

Thank you

Well... I probably wouldn't have used gorilla glue, and instead used teflon tape or loctite. Both are effective depending on how badly the threads are stripped, and neither are permanent. I hope you didn't spend too much on the scope :D

Oh. I explained myself badly. The screws are gone. One piece enter a little bit into the other piece. They are now held together with the super glue that i put all around the joint.

I plan to use metallic tape (the one used on ducts, it it quite stiff and adhere very strongly) now to reinforce all that.

... Did you glue the scope to the rings? I had assumed you meant the sunshade portion.

If you can show a picture I might have better advice for you.

Not to the rings...

I am on my ipad away from home. But check the picture on this website.

On the left of the picture, you see the front of the scope Is in two section. The front section is clearly visible. You see kind of a t shape on it. It looks like a sunshade thing, but it is not. The lense is at the front completely. That section is held by 3-4 tiny screws all around it. You cannot see them on that picture.

What I did is to glue the front section because the screws could no longer be tightened up. Using one hand to hold the main part of the scope and my other hand to hold tge front, i try to move it and it is rock solid now with the glue. Before it shook and the reticle was moving, giving me crap shots....hehe

Are you still able to adjust the reticle? When you look through the scope, is the reticle centered?

From looking at the photos, I may have tried re-tapping the holes and using slightly larger set screws.

Yes, reticle is centered and adjustable. The screws were very very very tiny. Almost same diameter than sewing needles.

Range report:

Did not hold. The stupid compound glue did not hold and the front part of the scope has a 4/1000 inch movement. The nice 1.5 MOA group I had suddenly opened to a 6 MOA group...hehehehe

I have a friend coming who is a machinist. He may have an idea. Next step is to get a new scope...

If you clean it up real good free of all oils the use of RED Loctite will make it one. But I would be very tempted to do some kind of inert gas to keep moisture out before doing it. Red Loctite requires heat to make it release. Would be the last ditch effort before replacing the scope.

Is red loctite stronger than super glue and 2 layers of metallic tapes?
It wastrong. But the recoil made the glue unbound and it moves a little bit.

Buy a Leupold and and all of your repair and future problems will vanish. Speaking of leupold, I have a 40 yr. old pair of binoculars that started leaking after only 4 decades of hard use, imagine that? But Leupold doesn't care if it was my fault or not, it gets fixed without even a shipping charge. I won't get long winded about the pair that got accidentally driven over that Leupold fixed at no charge.

Seriously, it's going to fog up even if you do get it to hold together tight. Go buy a quality optic and enjoy the advantage of spending a few more bucks for top notch quality, and legendary customer service.
