AR-15 budget build - receivers?

alright guys, as the title suggests im going to start building my own AR-15. this is for a couple reasons, mainly pricing and the fact that i just like to put things together. for right now, im focusing on finding a well built, good priced stripped lower. iv heard some that the receivers dont really vary in design or quality save a few, so it mostly become how much your willing to spend and what you want on it for roll marks. i saw the spikes tactical zombie lowers and thought they were cool and well priced ($125) but all of spikes lowers are on back order. there is also a listing going on on gunbroker right now, a long one, some guy is selling 30+ LAR grizzly lowers for $105 a pop. the sale ends may 11th, but at $105 id definatly be able to get it befor the end of the sale. any thoughts?
 
Keep shopping, you can usually find stripped lowers for a lot cheaper, including transfer fees.
 
jeez, how much cheaper can you go from $105 for a stripped lower receiver? i mean, it is the gun itself
 
I picked up an Aero Precision stripped lower for $85 from a local shop. The deals are out there. Is there a decent sized gun show around ?
 
I picked up an Anderson Mfg lower for $75 from a local shop. I have also seen American Tacticals for $75, and CMMG and others for $100.
 
I grabbed a stripped Anderson lower for $85 at a local gun store. I'd never heard of them but the lower looks nice and has worked out great so far.

Just watch out for Anderson shills on forums, their marketing director was busted on arfcom when he tried to pose as a curious customer asking about Anderson's proprietary finish.

$105, from Gunbroker... Plus shipping, and a transfer fee, which you can expect to pay $25 to $50 for...

I can generally find stripped lowers locally for $125 out the door without looking for deals. And everyone here in TN tacks on $10 for a background check. I bet its a government thing since every box of ammo has a ten cent tax on it as well... I dont care, I'm fixin to go back to NC anyway.
 
Aim Surplus has Spikes stripped lowers for $79 when they have them in stock. I like building on Spikes lowers.

I have a PSA kit I built on a Spikes lower and its very reliable!
 
i build on essential arms lowers. usually around $80
 
As mentioned, PSA has sales from time-to-time for $50 lowers.

AimSurplus offers SA&A lowers for $60, in addition to the Aero Precision for $85 (in stock now) and the Spike's for $80 (w/free shipping). Aim also offers the Spike's Calico Jack, Punisher and Zombie lowers for $90 (also w/free shipping) when they have them.

I can order a Spike's lower from Aim for $80, pay sales tax (Aim is in my state), have it shipped for free and pay the local transfer fee ($15) and be out-the-door with my lower for $100.
 
PSA and Aero are probably the best deals going, when you can find them on sale. I build most of mine on Spike's because I like the roll marks and the color fill. Bling.
 
i live in central nebraska, there isnt much for gun shows nearby enough that the potential savings would cover my gas expenses (damn 80 cutlass supreme) and iv never seen a stripped lower in the little gun shop i work at, the deal mostly in levers and bolt actions.

i dunno what your smokin man... lol, i just went on aim, all theyr AR lowers are sold out, including the Aero Precision
 
I just finished a build with the $99 New Frontier lower and although I do not have many rounds through it yet, it functions OK. Hard to beat $99 for a lower including the buffer tube assembly and stock. My Stag upper fits good and tight, mags fit well and drop free and the buffer/spring work as they should.

The safety lever is really tight to move off safe, and it is really easy to strip the threads on the grip screw hole since just the polymer is threaded - no metal inserts. I would never recommend the lower for combat, but if you want a budget build for range use, I think it can be a good solution. If you are really worried about the polymer breaking, just buy two units - the total cost is probably about the same as two stripped lowers and a LPK, tube assembly and stock anyway.
 
Folks here steered me to Palmetto State Armory for stripped lowers. I found that they are priced at $80 (or $90 for one with 'don't tread on me' printed on the side). I bought three and have made the first gun. They are well made, fit great, and are well finished with no blotches or sharp edges. PSA may sell them for $50 at times but I don't know when... so don't be a tightwad and buy one for a lousy $80. =o) And while you're at it, PSA has a MOE lower build kit with all the bits and pieces you'll need, including a Magpul stock, grip and trigger guard, I think it was for around $140 (poof - you gots a lower receiver =o)... a good deal, and the trigger is quite good. PSA folks are friendly and helpful too.
 
Rem.222, thanks for that site, i like the zombie uncle sam laser engrave lol. oh btw, im not too concerned witht he lower parts kit or furniture, i plan on getting an upper kit from blackriflecustomz, theyr kits are litterally everything BUT the stripped lower, starting as low as $460. they also do custom duracoating for either the stock furniture or magpul moe, the magpul duracoated set is $200 if i chose to get that later on.
