Tanfoglio Force Carry

A few months ago I purchased a Tanfoglio Force Carry (actually may be Force Police) Poly frame in .40. This pistol had a failure to feed about 1 in every 100-150 rounds until I got to the 1000-1500 round count. It has since smoothed out and seems to be totally reliable, no matter what ammo I feed it.

These seem to be very nice pistols for a very affordable price. A CZ-75 with some Italian upgrades. I know "Ash" and "Walt Sherill" are very knowlegeable about the CZ and the Tanfoglio clones.

My question is, as nice as these pistols are, and really as cheap (relatively speaking) as they are; Why do no law enforcement agencies carry these guns?

Cheap price, great ergonomics, capable of high mag capacity. Forget supposed lousy CS from EAA...These pistols would to me, seem like a great value to under-funded law enforcement agencies seeking a quality firearm at a reduced cost.

This is just my opinion, but it seems to me like a lot of under-funded departments out there , would benefit by picking up the "Tanfoglio".
 
Police forces are about one step less conservative in what they purchase than the military. Just like in the IT business, "nobody ever got fired for buying IBM", similarly for the police purchasing departments nobody ever got fired for buying Glock or S&W M&P.

And the retail price break you see between the Tanfoglio and the Glock or S&W probably disappears when the department gets the special LEO discount.
 
I've noticed our local law enforcement migrating to DAO striker fired guns. I'm guessing this is to carry one in the pipe without needing to manipulate a manual safety. But, that's a guess.

I've had the Force in 9mm about two years ago. Fine pistol, accurate, cheap, and I had NO malfunctions...ever.
 
They don't carry them because EAA is not a top-tier importer. Tanfoglio makes solid products - they are used by the Turkish military and police forces, were favored by the Israelis, and are widely distributed in Asia. But in America, they are associated with EAA and so do not carry the panache that Beretta has.

We think that because they are brought in by EAA, they must be on the same level as Rossi or others. It's a shame, but that is how it is.

Saying that, a former police chief of ours (served before and for several years after Hurricane Katrina) carried a Jericho - did so from the days of a patrolman. The Jericho is a Tanfoglio. In the same vein, I drive a Mazda Tribute, and it is a Ford.
 
I think that Glock is an almost perfect tool. No safety to remember but safe to carry fully loaded. Light too. No possibility to cock in a situation where excitement occurs.
 
Yeah, but this has nothing to do with your notion of perfection. By the way, Glocks are no safer to carry than a cocked and hammer-down Tanfoglio. You need not worry about a safety if you don't want to.

Personally, I'd prefer a decocker.

This. Glock and S&W give deep discounts to law enforcement. IIRC, our local police were paying $360/ea for G22's. Years ago the Tanfoglios were at that price point, but they're $100+ higher now.
 
Tanfoglio

It has been a little while since I made my Tanfoglio purchase. The SA has always been really good. DA has always seemed a little heavy. Nothing I can't live without. What I could not live with was a failure to feed every 100-150 rounds.

As I have posted earlier after 1000- 1500 rounds (somewhere in there) the pistol has seemed to smooth out. I own several different handguns and while some others have never had a single issue...absolutely nothing points or feels better in my hand than this Tanfoglio!!

I do not know what it is about this CZ-75 design, but the ergos on this handgun are absolutely outstanding.

This is just my opionion, but anyone seeking a reasonably low priced (Witness) poly gun, would do themselves a service by checking out the "Tan" line of poly pistols.
