I'm looking for a place to plink steel targets in south east michigan. I have no idea what the rules are on state gaming land or if there are designated places to go and set up your own steel targets. If any could help it would be much appreciated

At state owned ranges it's paper targets only, and nothing that has a human silhouette.

You just missed out. "The Pit" in Lapeer used to be "anything goes" in terms of targets. They recently went to "paper targets and clays only" though after years and years of people bringing all sorts of stuff in to shoot and then leaving the trash behind.

Livingston Gun Club in Brighton allows steel targets. It is a membership only club though. Google 'em up and you'll find their page and you can look into membership if you want.

This is a quote from a Consservation Officer in Michigan from another forum:

Most state parks anywhere in the state are closed to target shooting although some state park properties outside the camping area are open to shooting. Most SGA's are open to target shooting at anytime of the year although a few SGA's (not most) are closed to target shooting but still open to hunting.

As far as the statement that you do not need a hunting license to target shoot as long as it is obvious you are target shooting.....is correct.

Ha ha, that's why I posted this. I was bummed about the new rules at the pit. I guess all the morons shouldn't have been leaving TVs and trash everywhere. I see you are or usedti be a Sig Academy instructor. What do think about the sig 516?

Really? The rules at the Pit changed? :banghead: Why did all those idiots leave their trash out there? I've shot stuff at the Pit, but I always cleaned up when I was done. It only takes a few people to ruin it for everyone, apparently.

I completed the Sig Academy LEO/Security instructor course a few years back so I could do some security training for a specific contract (which fell through *after* I spent the money on the course...)

I never worked for Sig Academy itself. I took the class designed to create police officer instructors for local PD's.

I've never tried a Sig 516. (I do use a Sig 239 as a carry gun. Same gun I used in their instructor class and it's been 100% reliable over many years).

Hey Chris,

Drop me a line and we'll head to the range! Got some new stuff

Will do, always looking for another reason to go shooting.

Timing might be difficult in the next couple weeks, cause I've got a lot going on with work, and church lately. Should calm down after that though.

I've got a decent collection going now myself, I've picked up about 7 handguns, a 12 gauge, and just bought an AR a couple weeks ago :D.
