Recomend a budget quality 1911 .22

I have a gsg and I have no experience with the others other than looking at the colt (which I didn't like nearly as well as the gsg). I do love the gsg for what I bought it for. It feels and acts like a full .45 acp. That being said the finish is terrible (though the fitting of mine is nice but I've heard otherwise of others examples) it double feeds and ftf often but hey good malfunction clearing practice . The only other gripe is the right side of the ambi safety is very weak and can get loose if you don't soften the detent on the safety to make it easier to engage (either flick it on and of a bunch or take some grit to it). I actually had to pull the ambi safety and tighten up the connection a bit.
(Also careful pulling the the safety off because the plunger tube on mine was not staked at all so the little blasted pin was lost for hours!)

The gsg is what it is, its not going to win beauty contests (though I like it), accuracy contests or reliability contests but for a range toy or serious training aid it works quite nicely for me.

Oh one more not the sig and gsg are the exact same gun aside from the 30 to 60 dollar price difference.

Have you thought about a .22lr conversion for your 1911?

IMO the Marvel kit is the way to go. Curious if anyone knows who makes Kimbers 22lr kits?

Get the Marvel Unit 1 conversion kit for your 1911. Very accurate, by far more accurate than the AA or other conversion kits and more accurate than the 1911-22 clones.

Whatever you do, stay away from the Chiappa 1911-22! That was one of the worst pistol purchases I ever made!

I had a GSG and loved it. Ate pretty much eveything I fed it and was pretty accurate as well.

I looked at them all and the sig/gsg is without a doubt the best way to go. Mine has shot everything execpt sub sonic ammo. I ran a brick in mine before I started to have problems and needed to clean it.

The browning and colt are not the right size.

If I have to say a bad thing about the gsg is the sites are plastic and they do need changing they will strip.

Great gun that will slip right into your 1911 holster, the extra mags are not too bad in your single stack pouches...I use a little foam to keep them straight and tight in the pouch.

The Colt is the same size as the GSG, (full size) but is made by Umarex, and branded "Colt".

The Browning 1911 style .22 is the one that is downsized.

I bought a Kimber conversion slide. Works fine, after running a couple hundred Stingers through it to break it in. Bud's sells them for $289, IIRC. Nearly the cost of some of the 1911-style .22LRs, but very high quality.

The best part is that the trigger stays the same. Of course, the gun looses a substantial amount of weight, but it's still an excellent choice.

Another vote for the GSG.

I run a Ciener conversion on my Kimber frame, and after a break-in, it will eat anything, with 15 rd mags.

Sounds like the voice of experience! And I agree: gentle hands are the order of the day when changing sights. Other than that small caveat, the GSG has been nothing less than a stellar performer for me. I thought about the conversion kit for my S&W 1911 PD, but I picked up the GSG for only $270.00; so it made a lot more sense to me to have a separate gun.

The GSG has been stellar for me. Not at all regretting the purchase. I was at the gun shop today and noticed a Colt in the case. I inquired about it and the first thing out of the gunsmith's mouth was don't bother. I asked him why but he wouldn't give much information other than to say they have been coming back to the shop. I personally have no experience with the Colt .22 so ....

Love my Colt/Umarex. Eats everything including cheap bulk. Very accurate. Finish on it is good. 12 round mag. Does not need a tool to take down (GSG/Sig does).

I got the Govt Model for $399 OTD

The latest edition of gun test evaluated the GSG,Browning and Colt walther umarex gold cup with the colt coming out on top with the GSG getting a D. I am not sure I completely trust those reviews

I find that review to be very suspect as well - sounds like it was a direct result of advertising dollars. I have never known an Umarex-made product to be anything but potmetal junk. On the other hand, almost all of the feedback I've heard on the GSG (and the identical Sig version with the jacked-up price tag) has been positive.

Yes. Mine is on a Colt Series 70 frame.

My GSG has been rock solid with no FTF/FTE when using any kind of HV ammo. A few here and there with SV. Overall, a great training platform.

How and was it new or used? That's roughly 20% less than I have seen them of late (I picked mine up several months back for $320).

i may be wrong but i believe the colt/umarex is alluminum slide. I dont know enough to say if that would still be considered potmetal

It takes about 1 minute to swap to a conversion kit. If you really want a good one, get the Marvel Unit 1. It will shoot 1" 10-shot groups at 50 yards from the bench (and comes with a test target that proves it). Try that with any of the other conversion kits or 1911-22 clones; it won't happen.

Plus it lets you practice with your existing 1911 trigger.
