Today was my lucky day! I got a FREE GUN!!! It's an RG23 .22lr, I know it's not the greatest but it does work flawlessly so far so it is what it is. Here's the other awesome part it was give to me by an In-Law. My B-I-L called and said he picked it up for dirt cheap and thought I might like to have it. WOW..What a guy huh? I know pics or it didn't happen so here ya go.

I'd have taken that free gun too. However I've heard only BAD things about those brand of guns. Be careful when you fire it.

Still it's a free gun. so long as it goes bang when you pull the trigger I'd call that a win!

I'd just be sure the BIL is not setting you up for a huge favor.... :D

I'm well aware of their reputation and I've owned one in .38spl that now resides at the bottom of a local waterway. I know first hand the issues these guns can have but hey it was FREE..

Actually I maintain his guns for him and have never charged him. He's dropped several off the past few weeks for minor repairs/cleaning but his Marlin mod. 60 is in a bad way and is going to require so real work.... He's really rough on them... Guess he figured he kind of owed me but really his collection is quite extensive and just being able to take apart and see how so many different guns function has always been payment enough. But him needing a big favor is never out of the question.

I used to have an RG10. This one you have to unscrew the pin and the cylinder falls out to load or unload (by using the pin to poke the empties out.) It's made to shoot 22 longs but I've shot 22 LRs in it. Never misfired and pretty darn accurate.

I used have have a deluxe model (RG15 or whatever) that's like a normal revolver, push a button and the cylinder swings out. This one misfires a lot. I liked the RG10 better because it was just reliable.

Gun Control Act of 1968 made importation of RG23 and other pot metal guns illegal.
It is illegal to sell this gun in some states.
Most descriptions of this gun cite inaccuracy and failure to fire consistently.

Local waterway? Why not use it in one of those "Gun Buy Backs" that the liberals love so well? Free $50 and doesn't pollute.

Lost Sheep

Lost Sheep has it right, that's what I would have done. Turn the piece of junk over to the liberals, and get some American greenbacks for it. $50.00 can go a short ways to a fairly decent firearm.:D

Liberals? What's that? Buy back program? Sorry for my ignorance but those people and their ideals don't exist where I live. Our Democrats think socialism is having a BBQ to raise money for the fire department. Guess I'm luckier than I realize.

I have two RG23 revolvers and both work fine. I have only put a few hundred rounds through each of mine but I my cousin has an RG23 that he has put over 2k rounds through and it works fine, his good experience actually inspired me to buy the two I have. Now I won't say that yours will go through thousands of trouble free rounds but the RG23 is a decent gun in my book and I'm glad I bought mine.

They are alright guns as long as you avoid early models, the RG10 really is total junk and ruined their reputation. Imagine for a moment if you judged the entire Walther line by the P22...just saying.

I got one of those for free, too. Didn't even want it, but my buddy (an FFL) said he wouldn't even sell it, would just toss it. I figure I might be able to use the barrel and cylinder for a home build of a better gun. Otherwise, it's literally worth about $15

You could try shooting it and seeing if it works. It might be seen as a scandal around such a jaded forum but some RG revolvers work fine. OMG, what will all the popular kids think if it does what it is supposed to? The shame, the horror of owning a Rohm gun is too much!

CountryUgly, loved your bit about democracts, socialism, and BBQ fundraisers... I LOLd realworld. Sometimes it pays to remind people that there ARE conservative Democrats (YES THERE ARE!) in the South... and Texas. I know Texas dems that make some 'outer 49' republicans look pink.
Also, now I want BBQ.

LOL....I know right...Politics down south is all about the BBQ. I usually just vote for who has the better grub because they all view things on the conservitive side. The only reason we have a dem on the ticket is because the gop side is too crowded. Register as dem to run and you win by default....HAHAHA

Well I shot the heck out of it today and not a hiccup. The old beast ate 15 bucks worth of thunderbolts and wow is it dirty but no malfunctions or blowing up today.

I'm telling you, just keep it clean, watch the timing, and enjoy the gun. They're not even 1/2 has bad as people around here will have you believe.

Free gun is always good. Whether it goes bang or not, heck I'd take a free stock/barrel/etc. in the hopes of one day putting it to good use. :)

RG has a history of well......ahhhhh "Spotty" QC.

That being said, I have a ".38 Spezial" snubby RG that actually shoots pretty well. Have used "Cowboy Action" loads, wadcutters, and 130-Gr FMJ "Ball" ammo.

Not really sure about accuracy, 'cause I'm no good with a rodent weapon. Does seem to generally put the bullet where I point, and doesn't send more lead sideways than downrange {unlike the RG .22LR snubby I had}
