Dillon primers flipping everwhere

Which Dillon do you have?

Hmmm... what caliber (or really, large primer or small)? Is it possible that your decapping pin is slightly bent and pushing the primer from an off center position?

Are you using Dillon dies? If so, is the spring loaded pin operating properly (you should hear a click or snapping sound). If you are using another brand of dies, do you have the decapping pin set deeply enough or is the primer hanging up and being knocked free when you rotate the shell plate?

Is it only happening with one brand of brass or does it happen with all of them?

Sounds like you have to realign your primer seater, a very easy job.

It's happening with the spent primers-- they never touch the primer seater.

Sorry, that's what happens when I read with my brain in neutral. I assume your problem is with the primer collection box. If so, make sure your "flapper", the box cover is moving freely and wasn't bend somehow while moving the press. I had a silmilar problem with mine, dropping primers on the floor, until I replaced the cotter pin. If this doen't help, give Dillon a call...they are great to deal with on problems.

Yeah, check the flapper/catcher/chute thing. It pivots on a spindly little cotter pin of about 1,000 ga. wire that bends if you look at it funny. It's supposed to hang open and catch your spent primer, then get tipped on the up-stroke to drop the primer in the catch-cup. When the silly wire gets bent, the chute will stick in the UP position and won't drop open to catch the next primer. Voila, primers skitting all over the bench and floor.

If the Spent Primer Catcher Chute is working properly, put a piece of metal tape or masking tape on the far edge of the spent primer cup to bridge the gap to the press frame. That modification seems to catch most of the errant primer for me and I only have an occasional miss.
