Im in the market for a Glock for the sole purpose of attaching a MechTech upper to it and turn it into a carbine and using it to shoot at long distances. And by long distances, I mean 200 yards. I'm trying to choose between the Glock 21 Gen4 45ACP or Glock 17Gen4 9mm.

9mm: Accurate, fast, cheap to shoot, but any wind and you will notice

45ACP: Accurate, more powerful, heavy and will drop faster but wont be affected by wind as much What do you think? 9mm or 45ACP? Any advice would be appreciated. Keep in mind, I'm looking for the most accuracy I can get out of this. I'm not concerned for power or personal defense. My 1911 is for that :D

I should also mention that i said 200 yards because thats how far the ranges near my house go out to. I will stick within 150, but I will attempt the 200 every now and then once I get it built just for <removed> and giggles. I'm just trying to figure which caliber I want. Anybody reading this, feel free to comment. My friend and I go to the local range and plink at 1 foot diameter steel targets with his 9mm at 150 yards. It has a Mech Tech upper on it. We wouldn’t be able to hit it without that long barrel and stock. Were good shots, but not that good. Anyone who can do that with a normal pistol, much respect to you.

I hadn't heard of that system before, but I must say that is the best looking PCC I've seen. Sorry, no actually comment as to 9 vs. 45 (not much for long distance accuracy, myself).

I used to upset my assistant operations sergeant by shooting 8-10 inch groups with a Glock 23 .40 S&W at 100 yards. He got more upset when I hit 2 liter plastic bottles 4 out of 6 rounds with a 3 inch Colt Detective Special at the same range. Of course, I shot a lot more often in those days.

Since it's for plinking, I'd go with the 9mm.

Are you comfortable using a carbine with no manual safety?;)

Glock handguns are perfectly fine when holstered because the trigger guard is covered. When using the Glock in a conversion you sure as heck don't want to carry it in the field with a round in the chamber.

There are other carbine conversion kits that have features that permit covering the trigger guard.

I did give that a thought. I have looked at other PCC's but they all require the $200 Fed Tax stamp if you want to add a stock in addition to them costing over $500. They also dont have 16 inch barrels. The PCC's I have looked at are:
Hera Arms Triarii
CAA RONI
KPOS made by TheMakoGroup
Mech Tech Systems
All require $200 Fed Tax stamp except the Mech Tech, and none have a 16 inch barrel like Mech Tech. Thats why I beleive Mech Tech to be my best choice

Haha. Thats pretty funny that he would get mad like that. And by the way, thats very good shooting. Like I said, the 9mm is good but if its windy then I have to compensate for wind and bullet drop. With the 45 I will just have to compensate for bullet drop mostly. I'm not saying wind wont affect the 45, I'm just saying its a heavier bullet and I wont have to adjust for wind as much. Plus if I do end up getting the Glock 21, I can use the same ammo for that and my 1911 so it works out.
