Hey has anyone else noticed their local Dick's selling ARs? I go to mine in upstate NY about once a month and they never had them, but about 6 weeks ago I noticed that they actually started carrying full blown AR-15s! Not talking about the S&W .22 conversions either! Mine's got a couple M&P 15s as well as a few DPMSs, maybe even a Bushmaster or two. In total I spied 4 or 5 last time I was there, and when I was there today there were probably around 8. Not really something I'm interested in getting into right now, but it's definitely nice to see them diversifying a bit. Anybody else? Have the Dick's stores near you been selling these all along?

Mine's had them forever... They're priced a little to high for me, LGS has them $75-$100 cheaper.

Check your Walmart too, mine has Colts for around a grand.

Best slug gun i ever owned came from walmart...anyways dicks in my area has been stocking them awhile...also what does the m&p 15 run in ur area...recently in my area they went from 1000 to 600 bucks...

Why is that? What is wrong with Wal Mart?

Everything.

I've seen AR's at Dicks, as well as a lot of other guns gathering dust because they're usually overpriced. Our local one doesn't sell handguns anymore and has drastically reduced their gun department since taking over for Galyans Sporting Goods.

The most expensive AR I saw was a S&W and it was $1100.00. Though it did look like it had some addons, like what appeared to be a vented, railed handguard, and I want to say I saw a muzzle break, but not sure. Also pretty sure it was not an M&P Sport, which as I understand doesn't come with a forward assist or dust shield, this one definitely had both. I do believe that they had one slightly less expensive S&W as well. I think the least expensive AR they have right now is around $700-$800, but I couldn't tell what brand it was. After quickly checking the S&W site, this comes close to the $1100.00 model I saw. Might not be exactly right, but close enough.

I gave $1069.00 for my Colt le6920 at my local Wal-Mart and I ain't looked back. Seems cheaper than the S&W. But not to jump on the band wagon, I think that a person should buy whatever they want and not what they are pressured into buying. This just happened to be what I wanted at the time.

Just get something and shoot the pants off of it.

Yeah, I'd like to get an AR at some point, just can't really afford it right now. It was definitely nice to see Dick's carrying them though. Now if only I could get the LGS to do the same...:)

They are curiously more expensive, guns have dust and/or corrosion in them, customer service in the store is appalling...should I continue.

Kenny, no falling prices round here. Only inflated price tags that would make my LGS owner blush. We are talking nearly 20% on some rifles, others are not as bad, but add to the cost the other reasons I mentioned above to kenken, and you'll see my disdain. Dicks is not as bad, and they're willing to help a customer and let you ogle the goodies.

Get an AK. Half the price, unfortunately half as accurate, but twice the gun. I do enjoy my AR, but the AK is the HD/truck, SHTF gun. The AR? It's a paper puncher and occasional coyote gun. Something about a 30 round mag dump of 7.62x39 that costs $6 that brings a sile to the face.

No AKs at my Walmart though.

MMM, I'm seeing the opposite effect here; LGS prices are usually much higher than at the local Wally. This goes for long guns, targets, ammo, etc.

Totally dependent on the LGS. Mine is amazing, and they sell as cheap as they can, making up for it in bulk sale, and believe me you, they sell alot.

Oddly, I live in a "free" state, but the Walmarts aren't pricing accordingly. Example:

I lucked into a Sig 522 at Cabelas for $299. The price was a mistake, but they had no choice. Regular price was $499.

Same gun at Walmart, but with 10 round mag with no flash hider or rail attachments...$527 before tax. I found this abhorring to say the least.

As for Dicks, I am happy to say they have bolt guns much cheaper than Cabelas, and it's a shorter drive for me. Gas is still hovering around $3.25 here.

They have an assortment of AR types at the local Dicks, but the prices are better at the local Academy Sports. I haven't seen any at the two local Wal-Marts that actually carry guns and ammo.

Yeah I guess I should have mentioned that there's nobody in my local area who keeps ARs in stock. Mostly just bolt guns and shotguns. Before this, about the only ARs I ever saw in stock are those, IMO, ghastly camo ones from Bushmaster......not the bushmaster! :neener:
