I know there are people with home FFL's and that despite the guttering during the 90s of "kitchen table FFLS", FFL numbers are back to pre-Clinton sizes, and people get them for home operations. I want to get one for the purpose of doing internet transfers in the area I live. Most places charge $40-$50 for an internet transfer, or just don't do it at all. I think their is a void in the area and money to be made doing low cost transfers. I understand I have to meet zoning and local requirements. My question is does the BATFE object to a person who plans have a limited hours (say weekend only) for the purpose of doing transfers and operating out of their home?

The law states they cannot discriminate based on the number of transfers you do. That was meant to protect small FFL's. You should be good to go.

The application for an FFL will ask you to list your "business hours".....ie. the hours you will devote time and attention to your business. This is not necessarily hours you are "open to the public", but ARE the hours that ATF can visit you for a compliance inspection.
While there is no prohibition against "weekend only" hours on your application, the ATF IOI who will process your application must be convinced that you are indeed intending to "engage in the business of dealing in firearms". (yes, transfers count)
I'm a teacher, so on my FFL app I put "M-F 5:30-10pm" as my "business hours".
If you put 7-8am Saturdays, 9-11am Sundays..........I doubt you'll get approved. While there is no minimum number of hours that you must put on the application, you DO WANT to show that you are serious about being a licensed gun dealer.......and a couple of hours on a weekend may not suffice.
I do have to ask........how many customers are going to be happy if their gun arrives on a Monday, yet they can't pick it up until Saturday or Sunday?

While possible, unfortunately there are distributors and FFL's who will only ship to the premises address. Sometimes they even do so with no insurance or signature required.

RSR is the only major distributor I've had refuse to ship to other than my premises address. In that case, I can just let the carrier try to deliver and pick up the shipment later at the carrier's facility.
What's really annoying is when an FFL insists on shipping via Priority Mail to my premises address, which is not deliverable by the US Postal Service.

I sent in my application 2 weeks ago primarily to do transfers. I had previously contacted the BATFE and the agent I spoke to kind of highlited following local zoning requirements and said I would need a Vendors licence. When he shows up for my interview I have my Vendors licence to show him and a copy of my city's zoning showing that I will be legal so we will see how this goes.

Here in NY we will soon be facing the loss of FTF transactions without a NICS check. I was considering getting a FFL to facilitate FTF transfer so local people would have a high road option.
A question for those FFLs in states where FTF transfers are not allowed - do you receive the gun into your bound book first, and then transfer out to the recipient, or does the ATF have a way of documenting a transfer where you are acting just as a NICS check gateway, so to speak? My concern is if the transfer into book - transfer out of the book is the case, I may end up with a situation where both the buyer and seller do not get a immediate pass on the NICS, and I have to somehow hold a gun that does not belong to me.

Any gun that you NICS/4473 would HAVE to be logged through your bound book.
That's part of the job. If the transferee doesn't pass NICS and neither does the originator, they would have to find a buyer for the gun. The ATF loves to raid the premises of dealers who deal 'off the books'.

You can cover that with a business policy that adheres to state and federal law. Here is mine, which assumes the gun was shipped in but also covers your scenario:

NICS checks are only run on the transferee/buyer. You only record the name and address of the seller.
Of course if your state has registration it may require additional steps for the buyer and seller to add or delete firearms from the registration.

Couldn't you put the address of the UPS store, and instead of a Box number, put Suite Number?

You can't use a box/suite/etc at the UPS Store as your premises address because thats not YOUR place of business. You most certainly CAN use the UPS Store as a mailing address, but as Bubbles posted, some dealers and distributors refuse to ship to anything but the premises address.
