1st time shooting the FNAR

Just got back from the range trying out the FNAR so thought I would post some targets. It's set up with a cheapo bipod and a Weaver Classic Extreme 2.5-10 x 50 scope. We did some shooting at 50 yards to get it on the paper, and I had two new shooters with me today who really did pretty well considering they have only shot AR15's twice prior to this. These targets are at 100 yards, shooting from the bipod on the crappy ASC plywood tables. The wind was picking up pretty good, probably 12 gusting to 15 this morning. Here's the rifle:



I forgot to bring the 150 SST loads but I had the Federal factory 165 Nosler solid base, which absolutely will not shoot in my other .308, but here they actually were usable, although not all that accurate. The small squares are 1", 1.26" c-c, this is about the average of the 4 x 5 shot groups I shot with it.



For the final group I had 7 rounds left of the Federal 7.62x51 175gr. SMK loads so shot five at the target and two at the head. The 5 shots were .610" c-c. The head shots, well they are a bit apart, but with nothing to aim at but a big black blob it's as good as I can do. The head on the target is 3" wide. The first 3 x 5 shot groups were not as good, ranging from .8-1.1" by the way.





All in all I am very pleased with it, the trigger took a little while to get used to but by the time I shot the last group and the headshots I was liking it quite a bit. The trigger averaged 4 pounds 3 oz for 5 pulls, and the total rifle weight with bipod, scope and 5 rounds in the magazine is 11 pounds 4 oz.

TurtlePhish, it's comfortable to shoot and the whole gun feels very solid. The price now is under $1k, not bad at all compared to the competition. Actually I don't think the bipod is even good enough to merit the "Winchester" brand on it, just a generic.

Next time I get it to the range I'll try the 150 gr. SST's, my Ruger absolutely loves them.

Just a quick update. I got out this morning before the rain and tried some Federal 168 SMK, Hornady 155 gr. Steel Match, and the 150 gr. SST load. It seems I was not pulling the trigger very well this morning but here are the results.

It hates the SST, the best 5 shot group was 2.05" with most hovering around 2.2". It was so bad I was worried my scope was loose or something.

The Hornady steel match shot every 5 shot group around 1.5", and the one 10 shot group stayed right at 1.5" also.

The Federal 168 SMK load is not quite as accurate as the 175 gr. load, only one group was at .81", the remaining groups stayed in the 1.1-1.22" range.
