Heheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheh!
Seriously. It's like hitting the gun lottery. I have no one close that is as gun stupid as me. So, how am I supposed to walk into deals like that!!!!

This is the speak of legitimate jealousy.

The key is don't act gun crazy when you are dealing, and always walk around with a roll of cash so you can be prepared to make an offer. If you see an individual selling their guns they are hard-up for cash (as a general rule).

My biggest worry is taking advantage of someone.

Great buy on your part though.

Don't worry about it, someone selling their guns needs the money and if you don't get their guns someone else will (Pawn Shop). I'll guarantee you that I gave the guy more than a Pawn Shop would have.

Not bad by today's prices. If your neighbor bought them several years ago he made money and gave you a good deal.
Exactly, people forget that a large part of the price is markup. I don't know how long the guy had the Mauser(s) but I don't think it was a recent purchase. The M48 (light one) is a Mitchell's Premier Grade, but again I didn't tell the guy to overspend for one either.

If you're a builder, those VZ24s are probably the finest easily available actions anymore. I have one that came out of Brazil that is shaping up into a very fine scout carbine.

OTOH, it looks like a really nice mil-spec so it might be nice to leave it that way. Is the chilian just the barreled receiver? If so, it's good for a build in 7x57 or .257 Roberts, just stick to lower pressures.

The Chilean is just the barreled receiver, I would probably have a professional builder turn that into something nice, I might would have it re-barreled into 6.5X55 or I might leave it 7X57.

The VZ24 will be a custom build, I thought about 35 Whelen with a real nice hand carved Monte Carlo stock of an exotic wood. I was going to leave it alone but some a.s.s. stamped R-GUNS right on the side of the receiver, I know about import marks but that's ridiculous.

Nothing Bubba would do, strictly professional.

I thought I would start a new thread but I will just add to this one.

This morning I drove past the guy's house I bought the Mausers from and he was having a yard sale and he had this Winchester for sale so I picked it up as well. Not a dent, ding, or scratch anywhere its in mint condition.

Since I don't have to give my real name (people won't look me up in the phone book and call me a scoundrel), I paid $140.00. I tried to get it for $100.00 but he wouldn't go that low.

You're killin' me Longrange! Did you clean him out? Of course, given that he's a neighbor, you may need to wait a few more hours and see if he's still got anything left so as not to appear opportunistic. You'd never see thta stuff in a garage sale near my home!

I know he has a Luger pistol I want really bad, but I don't think he is ready to part with it.

Pretty cool all the way around.

.35 Whelen would be a good one for the VZ. I'm going to do a thumper someday but I haven't quite decided yet. I'll probably just get a .38-55 Winchester 94 first.

If the barrel on that Chilian is still good, 7x57 remains one of the finest all around cartridges ever.
