I lived in Lexington, not too far from UK for three years, and I only saw someone OC once. It was in the Sportsmen's Warehouse. I never saw it anywhere else, hiking, camping or just around town.

Just taking a guess, but I bet firearms are prohibited on UK campus. You should look at their campus rules.

NH is an Open Carry state. Besides myself and my dad, I have only seen 4 people Open Carry in all my time living. One of them as I recall was an EMT on duty.

If you go to COURT DAYS in Mt. Sterling in the fall you will see lots of open carry.
I doubt anyone would care if you open carried just about anywhere out side of Lexington or Louisville, it's just not done much.
I think it is illegal to carry on campus.
LOTS of people CC here and the police may not even ask about it if you get stopped for a traffic violation.

From Kentucky here. Yes, we open carry. But why bother when many of us have ccw's? The only reason I am glad we have an open carry law is so I won't worry as much if I am printing a bit. The only time I intentionally Open Carry is when I'm fishing.

By the way, if you are of age, you can carry a pistol loaded in your glove box or on your seat in plain view and it's legal. Just don't put it anywhere else in your car when in KY.

I recall when I was in the AF in CO in the early 70s. I went to to sears store, and a cowboy in full attire, hat, chaps, boots, etc, was buying supplies and was carrying a .45 single action in open carry. No one said a word about it. He bought his stuff, and held the door on the way out and tipped his hat for a lady walking in. Just don't see that kind of stuff, and we should.

most likely you will draw more attention than you like around campus but Preachnhunt mentioned Court Days in Mt. Sterling, Ky. in October if you like guns this is something you don't want to miss but you really should have started saving money last November for it.

I don't Open Carry often but never been refused service. I heard one ugly woman at Walmart behind me in line making comments about it saying it's not right and one 10 year old girl gasped at the sight of it as we walked past each other in the McDonalds entryway. I don't feel entirely comfortable OC and the looks do get annoying after awhile but most people don't notice. Most of the time when I open carry is when I'm at my Girlfriend's in rural Maine but I rarely do it in my city because it's a city.

I don't know if you can easily get a CCW in KT when you're under 21 but I'm permitless thanks to my City's Police Chief thinking that no one under 21 should have a permit. I'm only restricted to open carry and I have to unload my handgun when it's inside a vehicle. It's too much of a hassle that I just now avoid. If I had a revolver I would probably do it more because of ease of loading and unloading.

I was walking with a hunting knife on my belt . Was on my street and was surrounded by metro. Why was I packing a knife . I was maybe 1/2 block from my house. I had just came back from new home. We had just bought in country. I moved a couple days later. I now live 50 miles from Lexington no trouble ,open cary, gun, knife, Walmart or any where. Lexington was my home for many years Till it got over ran with liberals . Now high crime ,illegals , high taxes and traffic jams . And over bearing SS .

This is bad info.

HB 313 passed and now you can stuff one anywhere.

A loaded or unloaded firearm or other deadly weapon shall not be deemed concealed on or about the person if it is located in any enclosed container, compartment, or storage space installed as original equipment in a motor vehicle by its manufacturer, including but not limited to a glove compartment, center console, or seat pocket, regardless of whether said enclosed container, storage space, or compartment is locked, unlocked, or does not have a locking mechanism. No person or organization, public or private, shall prohibit a person from keeping a loaded or unloaded firearm or ammunition, or both, or other deadly weapon in a vehicle in accordance with the provisions of this subsection. Any attempt by a person or organization, public or private, to violate the provisions of this subsection may be the subject of an action for appropriate relief or for damages in a Circuit Court or District Court of competent jurisdiction. This subsection shall not apply to any person prohibited from possessing a firearm pursuant to KRS 527.040.

Unfortunate choice in schools friend. But welcome to KY.

It depends where you are how much OC you'll see. Here in Hilltopper country I see it frequently. I was working in a VERY rattlesnake prone area last week and OC'd everyday. Multiple restaurants and stores and never a second glance. Same is true of eastern KY. But Lexington and Covington are more "refined." And Louisville is basically another planet. I've never noticed anyone OC there.

BTW, That is the four foot timber rattler we killed at the front gate of the jobsite. Which prompted several of us to carry for the duration if the job.

I've lived near Louisville for 4 years and have only seen one OC guy at a flea market. I did see a lady biker with a huge Bowie knife on her hip though.

I've been to Court Days in Mt. Sterling, and YES you see a lot of guns being carried, but not on someone's belt. They have a gun show there, and people are bringing guns to or from the gun show. Mostly rifles and shotguns. I had recently moved to Lexington from a larger metro area, and commented to my wife that if this were NY, NJ or somewhere else like that, it would be pandemonium.

I live in Somerset, and I open carry every day. Some people look at me like I have 2 heads on my shoulders, but no police hassle here.

I stand corrected and happily so. Before I got my CCW, I was told by local LEO
the only place I can carry my rifles were on my seat in the open. Made it a pain to keep a truck gun. Thanks for the info!

I live in lexington ky and went to the university of kentucky. Open carry is legal in ky. You have to be 21 to buy a handgun in ky. UK does not allow guns on campus. 21 for concealed carry.

I see open carry regularily, and nothing is said.

On the flip side, dont be a ****** and gear up in all the tacticool you can find and open carry. Not because its against the law, its not.... but because you will look like a ****** trying to gain attention. The only attention youll receive is the "look at that ******bag" look I pass out to those prancing around sticking thier hip out and yapping like they they are gods gift to open carry. Use sense.... a thigh holster in wal-mart is a little overkill.. you know the type Im referring to.

Alot of young folks who turn 21 are the most guilty around here. No, you dont look like a badass.... no people wont take notice and consider you all grown up.... Usually, because those whom I speak of want everyone to see...they often leave the firearm they are carrying "sticking way out in the open". Please use common sense and keep you arm/elbow close by the holster to make sure your firearm will remain secure in your possesion....and not easilly removed by any bad guy of choice on a moments whim. Firearm retention should be mandatory training with state issued CCDW's... Ive no clue why it isnt.


PS, I have a CCDW yet open carry also. depending on the weather of course. I carry a Springer 1911 with a lanyard hoop on the mainspring housing. Blackhawk has a nice retention device that will tie your firarm to your person via a steel coiled cable. Its super nice also if you are very active in the woods, fourwheelers, motorcycles...ect. As you WILL know if it accidently falls out of your holster. Another aspect is its very hard for a criminal to shoot you or others with your firearm with a 200 pund man yanking on the cable. But be aware, that table can be flipped also.
