Ruger Blackhawk Convertible .357/9mm

I have an OM with 6 1/2 " barrel. I mainly shoot .357 in it but like the 9mm option in case I am in a situation where 9mm is the only available ammunition. I have used this in hunting wild boar. The prior owner had it mag-na-ported.

My friend's son has one. He goes with me to the range sometimes and I have shot it with the 9mm cylinder in it. It was accurate, hitting 6" steel plates reliably at about 40-50 yards. It is single action only if I recall correctly. I liked it.

I owned one years ago and it's an excellent way read "inexpensive " to log quality trigger time on your Blackhawk. The 6 1/2 inch barrel gives the 9's a little oomp and the recoil isn't objectionable at all. As for using the 9mm for hunting, the cartridge may not be long enough to meet your DNR's guidelines.

You may have to count clicks on elevation between the 2 calibers, but once you've done it a few times it's easy peasy. If the price is right I'd say go for it!

Had the 4-5/8" version, liked it quite a bit. Accurate in all three calibers.

I've had the 4-5/8" version for over 10 years. As said above, it's accurate in both chamberings and pleasant to shoot. Only downside is that it's a bit big and heavy for what it is chambered for.

With .357 magnum, 9mm and .38 Special on the menu, it's got to be one of the most versatile handguns around.

I would say so too, with three calibers to choose from, two without changing cylinders that makes them mighty tempting to me. I have been looking at them for some time and am glad to hear you confirm exactly what I was thinking.

I had a 4 5/8 one but sold it to fund a DA revolver for my wife. It was a lot of fun. There were a lot of naysayers about how inaccurate it had to be running 9mm down the bore but I didn't find that to be true for my type of shooting with it. (no bench).
Free standing shooting one handed at 75-80 feet I was staying on a paper plate running 9mm. I felt that was good enough for the girls I date.

You can never go wrong with a Blackhawk.

I have both the 357/9mm and the 45lc/45acp blackhawk. Can't go wrong with either. If you happen to reload and are looking to use it hunting I would suggest the 45 model. You can load up some stout 45 loads. Plenty of people hunt with the 357 but IMHO you are better served with a hot 45

I can show you 9MM PARABELLUM bullets, shot through a RUGER OM BH 6 1/2" convertible, that have rifling groves down one side of the bullet and not a scratch on the opposite side.

The Blackhawk convertible in .357/9mm is on my short list of wants...
One of the best single action revolvers out there!

They made one in .32 H&R Mag / .32-20 Win. Don't know when or how many, but they were made

You're right tennjed! There are several listed on gunbroker going for about $700 or so.

Have to put that at the front of the "I want" list...

That's interesting, given that most rifling is at least a few thousands of an inch deep, thus, even a slightly oversize bore should engage the circumference of the bullet. Got pics?

The .32-20/.32 Mag gun was made for Buckeye Sports Supply, now out of business, a distributor in Canton, Ohio. I think there were several thousand made.

There were also .44Mag/.44-40 convertible Super Blackhawks (for Williams?) as well as .38-40/.40S&W and .32-20/.32H&R convertible Vaqueros. The .38-40 and .32-20 convertible Blackhawks were made for Buckeye Sports back around 1989-1990.

Regardless, the .357 convertibles have proven to be less accurate with the 9mm cylinder than the .45 convertibles with the .45ACP cylinder. Actually the .45's shoot very well.

Terry has probably handloaded and fired more rounds through downrange through more sixguns than a lot of us put together. If he says it happened, then it happened.

I wasn't questioning the veracity of his statement. I wanted to see pics because they might give clues as to why it happened like it happened.
