So I want to strat feeding my AR some cheaper reloads, but I am having a hard time finding economical FMJ bullets in stock.

My LGS has Proofmark brand 55 gr. FMJ for $55/500.
Anyone know of a good brand and a good place to buy them. I'd rather pay a couple more cents per bullet for better quality than just shoot anything. The American Eagle 55gr. FMJ factory loads shot well out of my rifle.

Most of the places that have the bullets at a decent price are out of stock.

How about a good powder? I already have and use H335 for a single shot .223.

Hornady 55 fmj seem to be about the best quality for a good price. If you can't find them in stock, shoot me a pm and I may be able to help.

I'm loading them w/ IMR 8208. Shoots good (shoots great w/ smk's) and meters like a dream.

pat's reloading has 1000 hornady 55 gr fmj bullets for $87

H335 is probably the most popular for bulk .223 for an AR. you can buy pulldown WC844 from pat's. it is the military equivalent to H335. they suggest starting 10% below H335 starting load. some report more variation from lot to lot with the military pulldown powder.

Buffalo Arms. I just bought a 1000 for .08c apiece. Don't let the site fool you its not just about BPCR and cowboy action products.

+1 on Hornady FMJ's. Been pretty accurate in my AR. I always buy from Midway USA but I'm sure there are plenty of others places you can get them. Buy in bulk and save.

Right now, the Hornady's from Wideners are the BEST deal going. If you don't need 6,000 find a buddy to split them with.

Well I was going to say Widener's too. They stand behind their stuff too. I bought some bullets from them and got half the order. I waited and waited and never got the rest. I finally called and asked when I would get the rest? The nice lady said I should have got one box of bullets and that was it. I said it was half the order. She asked how I knew and I replied that while I didn't count the bullets, I knew what 1,000 bullets weighed and what 2,000 bullets weighed and if they would check the shipping weight they could see how many bullets were shipped. There was a pause, then "I'm sorry sir! We will ship the other half of your order right out!" and they did. The one and only problem I have had with them over many years.

I have mostly used winchester componets (Hornady bullets), since I started reloading. Last year, or the year before cant remember, I ordered some Winchester FMJ bullets to feed my 223 AR15. These were the worst bullets that I ever tried, including the bulk pulled bullets I purchase at a gunshow. Some were round nose and others were pointed. The bases on most were not completly filled out. I switched back to Hornady.

Winchester rifle fmj's are not very good, but I do like their pistol fmj's. IMHO, Remington 55gr FMJ's are the worst I've used. Hornady's are the best I've used and if they can be had for ~$0.09/ea shipped, that's a pretty good deal.

Wish I could get 500 or 1000 from Wideners. Not sure if I want to spend almost $500 on bullets all at once.

When they have them in stock, I always buy Windener's milspec 55gr FMJ bullets. Quite happy with them.
