So I bought a used glock 22 about a month ago. I bought it off a friend that needed some money. I paid $250. I shot it a few times and didn't like it. So I decided to sell it. Listed it on a local classified site for $450 or trade for a 1911.

So I had someone contact me saying they would like to trade me a Springfield Armory Operator. I jump at it. Met the guy in a public place looked or the firearm. Turns out its a Springfield Armory Operator TRP. Needless to say I traded the glock. It's in great condition. The grip safety has a lot of wear but overall is in great condition.

I thought it might be stolen to but he did everything I asked. I saw his ID and he signed a bill of sale. I don't have any reason to think it is stolen.

Sounds like you came out way ahead on that one.

I have a Loaded lightweight full size operator and it is tight as a drum and shoots like a dream...I can only imagine the fit of a TRP model.

I think SA gives the Operator pistols a little extra attention when they put them together and they are underrated.

Wow.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but the previous owner of that Springfield must be complete ignorant of firearm value.

I agree; that is the deal of a lifetime.

If your friend has any other used Glocks, and needs to get rid of them for a 50% loss, I'll be more than happy to help make it happen.

Or it is a total lemon and he was willing to get rid of at a loss. I certainly hope not, but I'd have to consider that as a possibility.

Great deal, but unless the gun was inherited or something I'd be a bit suspicious. The Springfield is easily worth twice as much as the Glock.

Is it just me or does that rear sight look a bit off to you? I know that the TRP mounts adjustable sights differently and that isn't my problem, it is that the actual material of the sights looks damaged, as if the gun had been dropped and landed on the sights.

Even if it needs some work or tuning...that is a pistol worth about 3x the one you traded. Not a bad deal at all!

Took it out to the range tonight. Shot 4 mags of winchester white box through it. No problems to report. Shoots like a dream. Much better than the glock I traded for it.

A glock for $250 (when the market value is around $400-500) and then a $1300 TRP for around $450 in trade value...

Some red flags there my friend... I'd be very suspect of stolen goods...

Depending on where you're at in the world the face-to-face private transaction value of a firearms can be a LOT less than the retail used value. Particularly in rural areas people tend to sell things for a lot less simply due to there being less selling opportunities for them.

Remember that everyone doesn't have access to the internet to sell on Gunbroker or the like and if someone needs money or just wants to part with a gun their only other option would be to sell to a dealer where they're probably looking at around 50% or so of the used value anyways.

Cases in point: my Ruger 10/22 I bought from my uncle (absolutely know it's not stolen). He was just looking to get rid of it as he said he already had too many .22's. His asking price was $40 (this was about 8 years ago). Naturally I jumped on it.

Just a few weeks ago a neighbor who needed some cash was selling his Beretta 92FS. I've known this guy for a long time. I actually remember when he bought the gun a few years back. His asking price for the gun, 2 mags and a Fobus mag pouch was $200. That one's mine now too :).

Heck my Glock 17 I bought from a DEALER (full NICS check and everything) about 6 months ago for $265. Came with 3 mags and a hard case. Sometimes you just find a deal :).

Per mgmorden, I live in a rural area, where selling opportunities aren't great. I do most of my buying in ftf private sales, but generally they're in a more urban area, with folks whom I've found through an interenet forum listing.

I've gotten some incredible deals over the years, though, locally. EX: Pristine, stainless Colt Anaconda, in box, $300; ln G21 with night sights, $300; .308 Remmy 700 VLS, $300, etc. Yep, same seller, each deal. "$300" was his magic price.

Looks good. I personally would swap the grips out to a more subdued style and I would install a solid Videcki style trigger. Other than that you did well. Real well!
