Just a small thread to tell about my experiences with the new Springfield XDs that I just purchased 2 weeks ago.
I have a growing collection of guns that I have purchased over the past three years..some were designated for carry...some destined to range duty only. I love 1911's, but they are not that comfortable to carry.
I bought a M&Pc in 9mm and 40 cal. Ended up trading the 40 cal..and kept the 9mm. It carrys OK..but still..not the most comfortable . I really didn't want to change my waist size in pants..just to accomodate a concealed carry weapon.
Then I saw her...the XDs. Small, thin, lightweight...hhmmmm...looks interesting! The guy swore that it had a manageable felt recoil and was VERY comfortable to shoot! Still didn't believe him completely. One of the guys at the store offered to let me shoot his own personal XDs. I didn't have any ammo with me except for 200g LSWC's, so he gave me a little bag of 5 hardball rounds. Now..I won't get in to the fact that he gace me 3 45ACP's and 2 45GAP rounds. One bullet got jammed in the barrel. Fixed problem...banged the bullet out...got 5 fresh rounds of normal ammo...and proceeded to shoot. 5 rounds...at 25 feet....in a dimly lit range...bad eyes...no eye glasses...put 5 rounds in a 3" circle. 1 1/2" left.
I bought the gun at that point and went down to the range to fire off a few more. 150 rounds...230g RN. Not one failure to feed...not one jam..not one failure to eject...NUTTIN!! Accuracy was nothing short of outstanding! The only complaint that I could muster up is the uber aggressive patterning on the front strap of the grip is a small bit uncomfortable..but easily ignored and the grip doesn't support my pinky..which can be rectified if need be by ordering the extended and higher capacity magazine from Springfield. The gun holds 5 plus 1 in the chamber..which should get the job done as long as I do my job correctly. I took the target out to 33 feet. In most day to day scenarios that I could EVER encounter , 33 feet would be waaayyy past my needs to consider discharging the firearm. Again..superb accuracy!!
The reason I'm so amazed by this little beast is this. I've fired a lot of small compacts in 38, 9mm and 40 cal. In fact, I bought a Ruger LCR in 38 for carry..and the stupid little thing can mess up the hands after 30-40 rounds. It just isn't that comfortable. I like to practice and shoot my guns...a lot! This XDs..I can stand there and shoot off 200-300 rounds and it wouldn't bother me! The trigger is pretty smooth and breaks pretty crisply for a small carry gun.
There is no advantage to having a CWP, if you ain't going to carry. That permit does NOTHING for me if I leave the gun at home or in the car. With this little pistol, I get...

- .45 caliber (I LOVE that round)
- Accuracy (usually a sacrifice on a small gun)
- Shootability (missing on other makes and models)
- Quailty (reputation)
- Did I mention accuracy????
