I started a poll a few days ago asking which 10mm semi auto I should buy.
Most of the respondents suggested the Glock 20, but I had my heart set on an EAA Witness that I knew was sitting in the used case at a local gun store. I ordered a few things I needed to reload 10mm, but due to my work schedule I didn't make it to the store for a few days. When I finally did manage to get there one day when they were actually open, the Witness was nowhere to be found
It was back to the drawing board for me. What should I do? Based on some of the great advice from my poll thread I was still confident that the Witness was a great pistol, and though I generally dislike S&W semi auto pistols, I did find a certain late 20th century charm in the 1006...but checking the auction sites had me very disappointed at the high price the 1006's seem to be fetching. The Glock, though not my first choice had the distinction of being universally available, and about mid-range in terms of price. I was confused on what to do...order a new Witness online? Go buy a Glock? Fork over some heavy cash and buy a Colt Delta Elite (I know a place that has a new production one for sale), try to find a 1006 for a somewhat reasonable price??
There is a gun store near my office that sometimes has a decent selection of EAAs and sometimes has some ok used guns...and sometimes priced aggressively. I was just in there Monday, so I doubted they had received any new EAA's since my last visit, but I figured I would just stop in. Sure enough, no new Witness 10mm in stock. They did have a Polymer Witness and I considered it for just a moment, but I relented. I wandered over to the opposite end of the store where the used guns live. Right there staring back at me, as if in some sort of dream was a gigantic slab of a S&W semi auto...Could it be?? I read the tag -- S&W 1006 - 10mm Used $375
The gun is in great shape. No real marks on the rails or the barrel. I ran a few Hoppes soaked patches in and around the guts and there wasn't really any residue. I oiled her up and put her in the safe to await a range trip.
I feel really lucky I found this gun at what I think is a great price.
