I started a poll a few days ago asking which 10mm semi auto I should buy.

Most of the respondents suggested the Glock 20, but I had my heart set on an EAA Witness that I knew was sitting in the used case at a local gun store. I ordered a few things I needed to reload 10mm, but due to my work schedule I didn't make it to the store for a few days. When I finally did manage to get there one day when they were actually open, the Witness was nowhere to be found:cuss: It was back to the drawing board for me. What should I do? Based on some of the great advice from my poll thread I was still confident that the Witness was a great pistol, and though I generally dislike S&W semi auto pistols, I did find a certain late 20th century charm in the 1006...but checking the auction sites had me very disappointed at the high price the 1006's seem to be fetching. The Glock, though not my first choice had the distinction of being universally available, and about mid-range in terms of price. I was confused on what to do...order a new Witness online? Go buy a Glock? Fork over some heavy cash and buy a Colt Delta Elite (I know a place that has a new production one for sale), try to find a 1006 for a somewhat reasonable price??

There is a gun store near my office that sometimes has a decent selection of EAAs and sometimes has some ok used guns...and sometimes priced aggressively. I was just in there Monday, so I doubted they had received any new EAA's since my last visit, but I figured I would just stop in. Sure enough, no new Witness 10mm in stock. They did have a Polymer Witness and I considered it for just a moment, but I relented. I wandered over to the opposite end of the store where the used guns live. Right there staring back at me, as if in some sort of dream was a gigantic slab of a S&W semi auto...Could it be?? I read the tag -- S&W 1006 - 10mm Used $375

The gun is in great shape. No real marks on the rails or the barrel. I ran a few Hoppes soaked patches in and around the guts and there wasn't really any residue. I oiled her up and put her in the safe to await a range trip.

I feel really lucky I found this gun at what I think is a great price.

I hate you. Fire from hell hate you. $375 is a ridiculously good deal. :)

As an owner of a Glock 29, and a former owner of a 1006, I would trade the Glock for the Smith in a hot minute. I enjoy my 4566 and 3913, but if I can find a 1006 or a 1066 then I will be one very happy camper.

Yes, it is. The going rate for a decent 1006 is anywhere from $600-$900 these days. Even if you decided you didn't want it, you could double your money reselling it.

I already have a 1006, but if I saw another at $375, I would definitely have a matched pair!

hAkron-

You will not be disappointed. The 1006 is as sturdy as they come, mild in the recoil department even with full power loads, uber-reliable and extremely accurate. The triggers are certainly not like the clean/crisp break you'd get with a nice 1911 or elite series Witness, but they are quite manageable once you get used to them. I have a half-dozen 3rd gen S&W autos, and I'm not parting with any of them!

Score. You'll love it. It will outlast and probably be able to out-shoot you. $375? Wow. Score.

Trust me, you did much better than the EAA. I like my Glock, but would love to fine a 1006 at a good price. Every person I know who tried the EAA in 10mm has had problems. The other calibers seem better.

I would take up shooting 10mm(and reloading as well) if I found one at that price. Phenomenal find there.

Good find! I'd be one of those voting for the G20, but you're the buyer and, occasionally, the decision-maker, so you did very well!! ;)

I passed on one with box and papers for $750 or $799. For $375 I would also bring the big "Stainless Toad" home with me.

Now buy the G20 and have a brace of 10s. I got mine in the early '90s and that was two of the best gun-buying decisions I ever made.

If I buy another 10x25 it will be Glock 29SF.....luv my first one a whole lot.

You scored there. I sold my 1006 and kicked myself afterward. You cannot go wrong there for under $400.

Nice looking pistol at a terrific price. Hope you enjoy your new find and have a great time with 10mm.

Great buy! Since you like the 10mm as I do, I would like to recommend the new 10 mm website... 10mm-firearms.com It's designed for 10 mm shooters of all types and a lot of information is posted there, plus the site also has a good section on reloading. :)

Yeah you did real good there. I picked up a 1006 about five months ago and I was out the door for almost double what you paid.

Wow, i paid 650 for mine and it has some scratches around the slide stop. Great find.

I own 4 10mm Smiths. 1066,1006, 1076, 1026. Basically all the DA/SA models. They are among the finest 10mm pistols ever made IMHO. Built like tanks and will outlast all of us.

Good on you.

Congrats. I love my 45 but 10mm blows it away. I added a compensator and it shoots hot loads like a 9mm.

I did a quick function test today. WOW! This gun is a pleasure to shoot. Dry firing showed the trigger pull to be heavy, but it has a very positive trigger pull and a short reset. The gun is very well built.

The prices for ones in top shape range between $700 and $800 around here yet rare 4505 which is blued carbon steel version of 4506 can be had for $500. I don't get it.:scrutiny:
