I notices George Wehby uses Taurus firearms on his show Person Defense TV on the sportsman channel. Do you think this is a sponsorship deal or a preference? Either way do you think it may lead to better quality from Taurus?

I haven't seen the show; don't get that channel. I'd have to base any guess on what I see (does he keep mentioning the name, or are you just "noticing" the brand?) If the name keeps coming up, it's probably a sponsorship thing. There is also the slight chance he uses the brand to "stay in the real world", so to speak, when addressing viewers who may not be as "into" firearms are are we.
Taurus is definitely a qualified contender in the self-and-home/family-defense category, but I doubt anyone would call them "better than the rest." In that market, though, it is hard to find a better value.

If he's on tv and he is prominently displaying a product or idea, there's always some sort of agreement.

If you're asking us if Taurus is the best firearms manufacturer in the entire world because someone uses there guns on tv, I think the answer will be a resounding no.

This is a tough question to answer. There is NO DOUBT they are one of the best values out there on the market. But are they better than the rest - NO.

I am a Taurus fan and they make some excelent guns, they also make some that have had many problems. Their PT-92 and PT-99 (9mm) are better in my opinion than the Beretta 92's & M-9's they are clones of. Their PT-1911 is the best value for price and features of any 1911 out on the market. I have in the past own their PT-140 Mil-Pro and Tracker in 357 Mag which were excelent, reliable and very accurate. My best friend just purchased their PT-101 (40 S&W) and is extreemly happy with it (clone of the Beretta 96).

Taurus like all other brands do make some that will need to be worked on by the factory (Brazil). You need to thoughly check out any pistol you are purchasing to make sure it is functioning properly and I do mean completely check it out.

I would also suggest looking at the M&P line of pistols.

Good Luck and Good Shooting.
Jim

Now I understand why he uses Tauruses (Tauri?) on a self defense show. One look at that PT92 above sure made me cringe away from it!

Who is Wheby??
Anyways, Taurus is not better then the rest! That is for sure.

I am not a Taurus fan and I question wisdom of this Wheby guy who is doing a show on defense and using an inferior contraption.

It may be true that someone is paying him but do not forget that he must use some gun paid or not.:)

Why??

Either way do you think it may lead to better quality from Taurus?

Taurus already had high quality firearms.

Because some are just died in the wool Taurus haters. It's sad, they miss out on some fun guns.

One can only hope.
Could it be that bling is not his thing?

But as to Taurus being better than the rest? Probably not. As good as some, sure. Better than others, probably. Less than others in some regards, sure.

They do have a few stellar performers in their lineup with some, such as myself, preferring the frame mtd safety on their PT92/99 lineup.

Maybe someday their customer service and overall quality control will step up to the plate where everyone will sing their praises. Hopefully. Till then, you pays yer money you takes yer chances. (which is true about a lot of makers and things sold in the market today)

I assume he's referring to all the gold bling Taurus seems to love putting on their guns, something I'll never warm up to.

Using Taurus firearms on the show certainly sounds like product placement on the part of Taurus. I wouldn't necessarily say their guns are better than the rest (not sure who or what the "rest" are), but the ones I have had have been decent performers.

I've owned a lot of guns in my life and mostly semi auto handguns since 79 when I carried a Beretta 92. I own 3 Taurus guns now and they have all been flawless with the least shot a PT911 with 2000 rds, PT92 with 6000 and my daily carry gun for 3 years until my wife took it as hers with well over 10K rounds with only a recoil spring assembly replacement. I now carry a RIA/Armscor 1911 CS. I equate Taurus with a product like Lee reloading gear, great price, does the job consistently and dependable.

Are they the best I doubt but then what is the best to a collector or someones life depending on it I guess is the question.

I carry a Taurus pt745 compact. Great gun! Im partial to my CZ P-06. But the taurus fits so well in my hand. Comfort is key. I also own a Taurus Raging Judge .45 lc/.410. I love taurus for the price great funs. Also Taurus has came a long ways, and the back their products!

Taurus is NOT better than all the rest... they're better than some, not as good as others. They're also more expensive than some, but not as expensive as others. I've owned a couple, and they were always worth what I paid for them. If you see one that looks like it would do what you need, handle one... if it feels right, at a good price, go for it. I've never had one break that wasn't my fault, but it's worth noting that they have good customer service, too.

NO!

If he wanted to use the best Taurus out there?
He would be using Beretta autos and S&W revolvers Taurus copied most of there guns off of many years ago.

Some people actually prefer the Taurus PT92 for the frame mounted safety. I don't own any of their bottom feeders but from owners' accounts the PT92 & PT1911 are some pretty well made weapons.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel?:barf:

For what it's worth, he uses a lot of different guns, all of which sponsor the show. I've seen him use Rugers and other guns as well.

As for Taurus being better than the rest? I will simply say "No"
