hey everyone.. ive been interested in buying a sig 556 for my rapidly growing collection.. but to be honest i do not like it taking AR15 mags... sure, it appeals to the civilian community.. but id rather have the rifle atleast look like a commando... does anyone sell a lower receiver that uses 550/551 magazines or is it possibly to machine off the magwell and trigger guard for the commando parts?

I've no answer for you, but I'm interested in this as well.

Wow!
You want a rifle that uses $82.00 magazines instead of $12 dollar magazines?

Just for the looks?

Well, Brownell's mil-spec mags cost $12.99, or less in quanity.

And they sure don't suck.

And the 551 mags don't cost eighty bucks, either. (Unless you order them from CGS). Not cheap but not designed to be more or less disposable like the average AR mag. If you register your rifle online, you'll get a code for twenty percent off on accessories ordered from SIG, too.

The 551 and 556 lowers are interchangeable, so you could always get just the lower and have the ability to run either way. It's the upper on these that's the serialized part.
I have both, I think I prefer the 551.

i like the sig/AK style magazine over the AR15 magazine, less seating issues, more versitile magwell, and constant radius to the curvature of the mag... but moreso, ive come to know sig rifles as the 550/551, adding a magwell to it just doesnt seem... authentic

and is that 551-A1 civilian?... i like it a lot, its what i believe the 556 should have been to begin with... i think im going to put the A1 on my shopping list

Well, this AR owning civilian likes having a Sig 556 that takes AR mags. The GI mags work great. The GI mags with Mag-Pul followers might even be better, and P Mags work great too. All well under $20.

Really? How much, and where?

I LOVE the 522. Best, and I mean BEST, .22 "tac" rifle I've ever owned, bar none.
