Cast bullets in a 1911 - ODI Viking Combat

so a buddy of mine got a ODI Viking combat double action converted 1911, and it runs fmjs without a hitch, but when he bought some all lead handloads (they were half the price at the shop) every single one jams. the edge of the barrel, i suppose you would say the feed ramp, bites into the lead. is there any way to remedy this? id like to be able to handload for him, but as it stands he cant use all lead rounds, we havent tried hollow points.
 
First of all, feel the mouths of the case. I will bet you find a slight flare there -- in the loading procedure, the mouth of the case is flared, and after the bullet is seated the cartridge should be run through a taper crimp die to smooth out the flare.
 
First, NEVER shoot someone else's handloads. Period. You're risking too much just to save a buck. Second, the shop probably does not have a license to manufacture ammunition, and thus selling those handloads is illegal. Try some known-good ammo and see what happens.
 
the handloader is a liscensed loader, or something, Loan wolf Handloads. and its not the case that its hanging up on, its the nose, its catching on the edge of the feed ramp of the barrel and cutting into the lead. as i said before, factory ball ammo runs fine. these are semi wad cutters. id try to get some picks but i dont have the gun with me, nor a means to transfer pictures from my camera to my tower.

I assume it is not the shop owner doing the handloading. A few shops around here sell third party licensed "remanufactored" ammp
 
they buy liscensed handloaded ammo while at gunshows to bolster their stocks, mostly of cowboy cartridges.
 
Sounds like post #3 is your friend's problem and I don't envy him. What happens next will depend on careful measurement and a discussion with the manufacturer. Perhaps by Viking Combat they meant this model to be used as a club.

I've owned a couple of ODI Vikings and the only ammo they'd feed reliably was FMJ. They weren't really made with LSWCs in mind.
