You got to love the little Ruger LCP. If you are unable to carry something larger, or need a backup pistol, the "Elsie Pea" will do the trick. I had a good work out with my LCP at the gun club and this video features some discussion about the LCP with shooting and functional accuracy demonstrations. Terrific little guy.

How many of you guys carry an LCP? What's your favorite range ammo and carry ammo? Mine performed flawlessly with Critical Defense, but had a few fail to extracts with Blazer brass.

I think the LCP falls into the tried and true category at this point. Mine used to eat everything and anything I would feed it.

May need to get another one...
 
I'm pleased to report the FTE (fail to extract) issues I was having yesterday were definitely ammo related. Today I put over 100 rounds of Winchester White Box (aka Wally World Ammo) through it and....not a single problem.

Phew.
 
I'm surprised by all the love for the LCP...The ONE and only thing I love about mine is the convenience of carrying it. Otherwise, its trigger and sights are an abomination! :rolleyes:

Sure it's accurate if you're taking your sweet old time shooting paper.

As far as ammo goes, I like the RWS in .380....I consider it my bad breath distance pistol.
 
Dude, seriously??

Come on...if *I* can put every shot in a six inch group at twenty yards...seriously...what's not to love. Of course the sights are not great. They are what they are, but you have to practice and get used to it.

As I said, I can get a decent group at twenty yards and an VERY good group at 21 feet, closer than that? Even better.

I think you are missing the point.

The LCP is a self defense weapon that you should carry all the time.

Why?

(1) Small.
(2) Small.
(3) Small.

As I make clear in my video, at least I thought I did, there are three VERY important truths when it comes to the LCP:

(1) It is for close distances.
(2) It is purely last resort/self defense.
(3) It is for when you CAN NOT carry something larger.

You have got to keep those three points in mind. Seriously, all three.

A string of three/four/six shots of really quality .380 Auto into a bad guy is nothing to sniff at.

YMMV, and, as always, respectfully offered for your consideration, IMHO.

Bad sights and bad trigger. I'll keep my sig p238 in my pocket instead. It's far superior.

Now, as for your P238. I'm glad you are able to carry it.

Let's compare, and please keep in mind the three caveats I have been making:

(1) Close distance.
(2) Self defense only/last resort.
(3) If you are unable to carry anything larger.

So 2-3 tenths of an inch in height and width make that much of a difference in your pocket? Sure it's 5oz heavier fully loaded, but it's not like I'm lugging around a 5lb weight or anything. The 238 shoots decent (~6") groups at 15 yards. I will admit I haven't shot the lcp yet. I couldn't stand the trigger and basically non existent sights. When I don't feel like putting a holster on, it's perfect for throwing in the pocket before I leave.
 
Nothing wrong with the LCP, but it's not even close to the P238 in overall shoot ability.

The P238 is far more accurate, has much less felt recoil and the single action trigger is so much better.

I've never had a single failure of any kind with mine. I've shot everything from Gold Dots, to Speer Lawman, to old russian steel cased stuff that I couldn't even identify because it came in a greenish blue box that was all Cyrillic.
Every round has functioned flawlessly in that gun, and I have to say, I've been mightily impressed with the accuracy.
I would never ever let that gun go. A gun that small that I can really count on is a rare thing.

To address kokapelli- I don't do SAO guns. Don't want to have to retrain myself to think about a safety. I'd take an LCP over a P238 any day. I do admire the fit/finish and just how nice the P238 is. I just wouldn't want one.
 
I enjoyed your video review. I like that you addressed most of your bloopers (e.g., ".38 automatic") with notes embedded in the video. (I would've like for you to have corrected your "9x15mm" blooper though.)

It appeared to me the "failure to extract" issues you experienced were actually failures to eject (causing an "in-line stovepipe"). The fired case was extracted but it was not ejected from the action.

That's the same problem that led to my getting rid of a Diamondback 380.
Even after a trip back to the factory it continued to happen.
 
Shawn, no, they decidedly were not failures to eject, they were failure to extract. Ran over 100 round of WWB through it, not a single issue. As for your other remark, I said I was not sure on the size and in the very next clip supplied all the data. Geesh!

I'm home now and I finally had a chance to go back and look at your video again and you are absolutely correct - those are failure to extract issues, not failure to eject. (I've been on the road for the last month and my hotel had really slow internet (I mean REALLY painfully slow)).

I'll have to go watch your follow-on video.

I understand that "something > nothing", but I would love for people to use some of these micro pistols one handed, firing quickly, while moving sideways, and report how confident that left them.

I can do this confidently with my SR9c, and easily carry it everywhere. I couldn't do it with the LC9 or PF-9 that I had before, with any confidence at all.
