22 ounces is awfully heavy. Especially for 5 shots. I'd be interested if it were closer to the weight of my PF9.

Thanks for the report. I am very interested in getting one of these. True, they do sound heavy compared to some polymer single stack, and 5 shots is less than any single-stack semi, but I am intrigued by a solid revolver for CC.

From what I read here and elsewhere, the "Stellar" clips that Taurus sells with the 905 aren't that great, especially for carrying in a pocket. They just don't hold the rounds tight enough. Apparently these actual moon clips work better:

I already have other 9mm pistols, and it sounds like the ballistics from this little snubbie are good (better than a 38 spl. and even close to a .357, esp. with +P). It may become a great carry piece for me, or just be a fun gun to have. Either way, I think I want one.

Nice video. I had a s & w 940 years ago. I was shooting corbon 115 +P+ and getting an honest 1247 fps from a 1 7/8" tube. That was with a .012" b/c gap too. I sent it back to smith and had the gap narrowed to about. .006 which is where I like my revolvers. BTW they told me the gun would not hold up to a lot of +P+ and advised that I limit my shooting to some occasional +P and and the rest standard pressure.

I have to admit that the +P+ was like shooting a .357 from a snub, but all in all a very efficient round.

Yeah weblance, the one asking why 9mm revolvers aren't more popular was a big influence in me looking at the 905 again. I'd looked at it in passing before, but not given it more thought. Now I've done some more research on it and it sounds pretty nifty. It certainly sounds like you are enjoying yours.

Does anyone know if these guns are still in production, or if there is any chance they will stop making them? It looks like Taurus is still doing it, but a few posts on the interwebs were casting some doubt on their continual production. I just don't know if I should get one now, or if it can wait 6 months.

Bear... I know nothing about Taurus' plans for the future, but I dont really see them dropping this gun. It HAS to be popular, in other parts of the world, as well as here in the US. But... it would be a wise move to grab one now, they arent that expensive, and if they are discontinued, the price will surely rise. I know it would take a good amount of money for me to sell mine, if they were discontinued, I like it that much. If you have read my postings about the 905, you know how I feel about it. Its a great gun, in a great caliber, and at a great price.

No sign that Taurus is thinking of dropping the gun. It's is one of their bread and butter revolvers.

Alright, I plan on buying one of these this weekend at the gun show (one dealer that I like will be there from out of town and they will have it). This is my first revolver, and I know that there can be issues like timing, etc. What do I need to look for?

I emailed the dealer and asked if I could load it with some snapcaps I have and do some testing. If I can pull the trigger (in DA) over and over, is that good enough?

Check to see how much play there is when the cylinder is locked, and the trigger is pulled. Load your SNAP CAPS and pull the trigger, let the hammer drop and hold the trigger back, in the fired position. Check to see how much play is in the cylinder. Do this with each chamber. There will be a little play, but the cylinder should not move back and forth in the lock notch very much. Ideally, there should be no movement, but that doesnt happen very often, that a revolver has no play, and a little bit is acceptable. Make sure that all the chambers feel the same, not some tight, and some sloppy. Check how much play the cylinder has front to back. Again, a little is acceptable, ideally, there should be none.

Check the barrel/cylinder gap. Look at where the FRONT of the cylinder meets the barrel. There will be a slight gap, and you will see light thru that area. It will be maybe the thickness of 2 or 3 sheets of paper. Rotate the cylinder, and make sure that gap is constant. The cylinder should never touch the barrel.

Make sure the barrel isnt canted. The best way to see this, is look at the revolver pointed at you. Look at where the barrel meets the frame. It should be perfectly straight, not twisted to one side, or the other.

I would have liked it if my 905 was Stainless, but after buying my Model 94 in Stainless, the Matte finish that Taurus uses now, is just ugly. I like the brushed finish that Ruger uses on their Stainless guns. Stainless is more forgiving as far as maintenance goes. Something to consider before you plunk your money down.

Good luck. Post some pics when you get your 905, and a range report. Consider some Moon Clips from TK Customs. They are better quality than the ones you will get with you new 905.

Is this gun good for pocket carry (normal kakis or somewhat loose jeans), or is it better as IWB or ankle? Any preferences or experiences?

I would say its better for IWB. I think its too heavy for the pocket. Also keep in mind, it has an exposed hammer spur, and pocket revolvers are better with a bobbed hammer design. The weight does help it handle the power of the 9mm, which is substantial in a snub.

Thanks for the help! I'll either come home this weekend with this gun (Taurus 905 in SS) or a Ruger MkIII 22/45 Lite (I need a nice semi-auto .22LR for plinking, and while I don't need the Lite version, I have dreams of buying a "can" someday). In the end I plan on owning both guns, but I can only get one this time around.

I'll see how the 905 that they have for sale functions and then go from there.
