sounds like century tech support is not really sure by using the word "should". did they inform you by phone or email? did you ask them also if their barrels are hammer forged also?

I thought it interesting they used the "should" word. It was an e-mail since they couldn't tell me right away on the phone and suggested I submit a tech support query online. Didn't bother asking about hammer forging since chances are they aren't (doesn't concern me).

I thought Century used different contractor shops to build their rifles. Some are very good and some not so good. They are probably supposed to build them to century specs. I thought that was why some of the 2008 are very good rifles and some are trouble. Am I wrong in this? If all of their vz's are now up to speed then it seems to be a good value. Heck I may buy two of them for my boys. They are about 1/2 the price of my Ohio (after custom work).Anyone torture test a newer Century?

CZH2003 means its made by Hermex(distant succesor to Zbrojovka Praga), first company that made semiauto vz.58 for Czech.
Generaly just surplus rifle with no changes besides cripled trigger mechanism. Thats why it costs about $250.

Sure didn't cost $250 up here! Well, mine built from the barreled receiver and parts kit did, but they were selling the whole rifle for around $600 if I recall correctly.
Yea, the bolt carrier had to be slightly modified to fit as well. A little bit grinded off.

Now, they sell for more than any of the other brands due to the chrome lined barrels they have. Personally, chrome doesn't matter to me, but people seem to like to pay a premium for it.

Quick question, Ive mounted one these new 1 inch bezel, high power, tiny flashlights to my vz and I would really like to have a flip-up red lens cover to go on it. Quake Bushwacker used to make one, but they dont offer it now, Ive looked everywhere I can think of, has anyone seen one of these for sale? I guess I could make one from a lens and a scope cover, but Id rather just buy one.

Surefire makes several, both flip-up and slip-on type. Some are fairly costly, but they're well made.

:)

Yea I looked at those, they only have the "non-flip" (for lack of a better term), in the 1.0 inch. I will probably end up buying a flip up scope cover and knocking out the yellow/clear lens and putting in a red, that's if I can find a mineral glass red lens in 1". Ill look for a bit more maby next friday Ill order parts and build one if I don't see one before then. Bought a MAKO pistol grip today should be in about Wednesday Ill post a pic when I get it put on. :D

vz 58 wood stocks

Hey was searching around today and found some really nice looking new production wood stocks at ironwooddesigns.com/VZ58_Czech.html they look real nice and they upsized the original pattern a bit for greater strength, and to better fit American shooters. They have a wood pistol grip that looks original but is like 3/8" longer. You guys may have seen them already, but I thought Id post it for the ones who havent and may want one.:D

My new VZ2008 ($400 on sale) with 1 mag, and 10 extra mags ($10 each on sale)...

Feels excellent. Looks fantastic. No canted sights, mags fit perfectly, function tests perfectly. Going to shoot it this week.

A little too rich for my blood. I think I've decided to just go with the top picatinny and add a Trijicon RMR.

:)

Accessories

Two more items off the list. Installed a Fab Defense pistol grip and a LumaForce Tac5 flashlight to the mighty Vz2000. Now I just need to build the flip-up red lens, extended bolt release, and extended mag release. Here are some pics of my baby.

That sand/tan and black is really nice looking, If I ever refinish, or build one I think I would copy that one. What do you think they used Duracoat?

I'm not set up to weld Al. Otherwise I would definitely give a 40ish round magazine a try, if only just to see how well it worked.

:)

Optics question...
I've had my CZ VZ58 Sporter awhile now. It has been a great to shoot and handle from day one and I've never wanted to add much. I did add muzzle brake and Cobra angled grip. The brake helps for obvious reasons and the grip makes shooting much more comfortable due to the extreme heat the VZ pumps out.
I've been toying with the idea of adding dot or low power scout scope, but I'm not sure either will be any real benefit and worth the cost and weight.. ? Then there is how to mount the optic, railed handguard, rear sight mount or something on the receiver?

Here's my add-ons

I have pretty much decided on a railed upper (keeping the stock wood impregnated lower, because it saves a few ounces and I like the unusual look), and add a Trijicon RMR dual-illuminated (combination of fiber-optic/day and tritium/night reflex sight with yellow-triangle reticle for a little better accuracy without compromising fast target acquisition). IMO this gives me the best combination of light weight, reliability (batteries are not required and it allows me to retain irons and "co-witness" with them for added redundancy), and a little more precise sighting. Is it as good as a scope with respect to precision, no, but it doesn't weigh as much, sacrifice reliability, or add nearly as much bulk either. That being said, with my choice of components it's far from the least costly option.
