Local gun shop has a used Kel-tec Sub-2000 in .40 S&W with Glock magazines and a carrying case for $280. The gun was described as being in good condition, I will be going by to look at it closer tomorrow. Everything I have read claims this is a good pistol cartridge carbine for the money.

I called 10 shops today and nobody had one or could get their hands on one with a special order for at least six months. I found a few on Gun Broker I could buy, but were easily $425+ on a new rifle where the MSRP is $300.

$280 for a carbine feels like a good deal but wished to get others insight. Is this a good deal?
 
Had a 9mm Glock model. Piece of crap from start to finish with every ammo but Winny PDX. I would not trust YOUR life to it, let alone my own.

Not heard, seen, nor experienced any shortcomings with the .40 version. At that price, I'd indulge my inner bad boy.:)

The Hickok45 video is one reason I am salivating over this concept. The $650+ AR pistol caliber carbines don't get me very excited but sub $300 is enticing. The oddball nature of this carbine and compactness make it intriguing.
 
That is a fair price, I've got a G22,G23, and G19 Sub 2000 and don't have any complaints. You don't see many for sale and never for under $300.
 
I've got the .40, love it, with certain loads it nears 10mm velocities out that long barrel, my perfect traveling companion

Is it true that the grip on the G19 version is shorter than an actual Glock 19?
 
For that price I'd buy it, chuck a few rounds down range and if it didn't thrill me, sell it for double that easily.
 
I love my .40 cal Sub 2k. I got mine for $280 from my Father in Law. Shoots great. You will not be disappointed.

I would definitely pick it up if they still have it. Shoot a couple rounds through it and see how you like it. If you don't it's a pretty easy sell at $400 the way those things have dried up.
 
I bought one a few months ago. It was the Glock magazine type. Here are my results at 25 yards:
Winchester 165 FMJ, 1285fps (Chronographed) – 2.4”
Hornady 155gr JHP - #9 5.6 grains HP-38, 1208 – 1.7”
Nosler 135gr JHP – [1.0] 8.0 grains Unique, 1570 – 2.2”
Nosler 135gr JHP – [0.7] 7.1 grains HP-38, 1510 – 2.3”
Hornady 155gr JHP - #15 7.0 grains Unique, 1409 – 2.8”

I noticed that accuracy deteriorates significantly out beyond 50 yards. Probably because the rounds are slowing down to subsonic and they are being overtaken by their own shock waves. I wish I could have gotten the 135 grain Noslers to shoot as well as the Hornady 155 rounds but I could not get below 2.2 inches.
Although I liked the rifle, I wound up selling it to buy a Kel Tec SU-16B that I like a lot better. The SU-16B gives me 3" groups at 100 yards with iron sights.
 
I have no experience with the gun but I can say that a friend of mine raves about his weekly. He's a shooter and not just a guy with a bunch of guns sitting in his safe.
 
My SUB 2000 in 9 MM is 4 inches low at 100 yards. Adequate groups 4 to 6 inches with open sights. I would like to get a G 19 so that I can CC and keep a bunch of loaded mags for the glock and the subbie when traveling. Never a misfire. Have to watch the sight alignment with hearing protection, as it bumps the stock.
 
Went and looked at the rifle today and had to pass. The gun shop was very accommodating and allowed me to test fire the rifle.

The front site was pushed all the way to one side and the site had to be pushed all the way to the other side of the gun and down to zero the rifle at 17 yards. When looking closer the rifle barrel was canted to one side. According to the mfg website the company only offers the lifetime warranty to the original purchaser of the rifle.

The gun may have been able to be fixed easily, but not sure. The rifle windage and elevation had run out of adjustment when dialed in and would not have been on paper at 60+ yards. Hard to justify the purchase of a used rifle for $60 less than a new one and has known issues. Thank you for all the reviews above. I will have to keep looking.
 
Sorry to hear about the issues. Have heard Kel-Tec is great with their service.... I personally have never had reason to test that statement. My 2 Sub-2000's have been flawless...
They are FUN guns to shoot and even easier to carry.

I would recommend you re-think getting it...

My brother had the 9mm. Nohing but problems and jam o matic. Factory couldnt fix it. The plastic was chipping where the brass was hitting. It was returned several times. He ended up trading it for a mauser and 1K of ammo.
 
They are hit or miss. You either get a good one or you dont. As for the canting of the barrel. The Subs produced before last year had barrels that were locktighted to the pivot block. Dont need to be a genius to figure out that a product that fails to bond at 300 degrees might not be a good choice for something that could be fired rapid fire, and exceed the temperature limit, causing a failure of the bond and a barrel that will rotate.

That is exactly what happened to a lot of owners, and they began pinning the barrels late last year.
 
Captains, it was at least 4 years ago and I believe it was under 50 yards. I had the same problem that Hickok 45 did, in that the front sight had to be moved way to the right. Thanks for picking this out for me. I would like to keep it zero at 50 yards and recheck the windage adjustment. I haven't had any problem with ammo with this gun.

No, sure doesn't. But an optic can be reliably mounted on it. Take away the folding capability of the Keltec, and you essentially have an inaccurate and IMO and experience, a less reliable carbine than the Hi Point. I'll take 11 flawless rounds over 34 that may or may not cycle. Mine didn't, which was the coveted 9mm Glock model. The .40 may be better, maybe not.

Just sayin.
