Friend in another town has a buddy selling an older Simmons model 1210 spotting scope. Is 25X50 and supposedly a Japanese model. Can't find much information out about this model. Anyone here have one that can give me an idea if I should go for it at $50? Comes with tripod. I'll be using it out to 100 yards. Reviews for Simmons stuff seems to be all over the map. Thank you, Don

Fifty bucks for an old cheapie spotting scope sounds like a bit much. I would spend a couple of hundred on something that has a decent reputation for customer service, and more upgraded features. See what Bushnell or Tasco have to offer for the lower price range models.
If you really want to learn about spotting scopes, talk to some dedicated bird watchers; but be prepared to shell out some major dollars.

Any of the Japanese made tasco or Simmons high powered optics have a bit of value to em certainly more than $50

It will definitely be worth that much for the use if moderatly cared for and contrary to what post 2 suggest will be a far far superior optic to the new blurry Chinese made garbage sold by those two companies today.

posted via that mobile app with the sig lines everyone complaints about
