Reloading a .356

Have a friend with a Winchester Lever action in .356. He is paying $60.00 for 20 bullets at on local shop here.
I had mentioned I would reload some for him in different lengths and such.
He has had this gun sighted at a local shop, different scopes and after 60 rounds in three days or so we still can't get this thing any better then just on paper, it's all over.
Has anyone had luck with loading a 356 and where can I get bullets, I checked a few places and no luck?

W-W , Speer, Sierra, Hornady, and R-P make the BULLETS appropriate to this cartridge, and they are a damnsite cheaper than $60.00 for 20.
W-W makes factory loaded CARTRIDGES and I never paid anywhere near such silly prices for them. The last i bought were $60.00 for five boxes, 100 cartridges, and this, NOT all that long ago.

Thanks for the reply. Wow that's about $12.00 per box. Where do ya get them so cheap. The thing is no body around here carries the .356. One person about 25 miles away. I know he was buying from midway for $50.00 a box and by the time you finished with shipping you were over $60.00 per box.
Can you use the same projectile as you would for the 35 Remington (.358)?

I was going to start reloading some of these 356's and I figured about $1.30 per but if he can buy them for a buck heck he'll do that. Can you tell me where you're getting them for that price?

I doubt that you'll find any cheap 356 Win ammo, as it seems $50 and up for 20 rounds is the going price for that ammo. If you have fired brass, then reloading is the way to go. The brass is out of stock in many online gun stores, and it is only produced as a seasonal run. It's a great deer rifle with quite a bit more power than the 35 Rem, and does use .358 dia bullets like the 35 Rem.

The .356 Winchester uses the very common 35 Caliber bullet in .358". That's the same bullet used in the 35 Rem and other common 35s'. Like said above, Sierra, Hornady, Barns, Speer and all the other bullet manufacturers make bullets for that caliber. Any bullet you can load in the 35 Remington will work well in the .356 Win. They can be had for under $30/100 which beats the heck out of buying 20 rounds of ammo for over $50. For less than the price of 1 box of loaded ammo you can load 100 rounds yourself.

Looks like you will be reloading for the .356 Win shortly... lol

There is a difference between "bullets" and loaded cartridges. Bullets in the .358 diameter correct to load in the .356 Winchester are relatively inexpensive but .356 Win. cartridges are often quiet expensive, kinda like .307 Win. cartridges. They are only made once each year, and when gone, not available or priced according to scarcity. The obvious answer is to reload these cartridges. One can make .356 Win from .307 Win, or vice-verse. You may be able to make either from .308 or .358 Win. but may have ejection/extraction problems due to rim size. .444 Marlin may work if you don't mind annealing and trimming a bit.

I may not be the brightest bulb in the group which is why I am here. I like to reload and am off tomorrow to pick up dies and used brass I found about 25 miles away. I/we have checked everyplace and know you can't by .356 loads for a dollar per. Was just wondering was all where he was buying and maybe he had a connection to buy them so cheap was all.
