Recommendation? Single Stack for CCW

Kimber Ultra Carry II. This is my EDC weapon. I've put close to 1,000 rounds thru it with zero malfunctions. 7+1 of .45 ACP makes me feel very safe.
 
What: Sig P239
Why: A balance between 'ease of carry' and 'ease of shooting' and 'reliability'.
-The Sig has a 3.6" bbl that will produce effective bullet speeds and is not ammo picky.
-There is enough weight to make it easier to shoot accurately at any range needed.
-It's small and light enough for a small guy like me to carry comfortably.
-It is proven uber reliable.
 
Colt Light Weight Commander.

Its my favorite because its perfect sized not too big not too small, thin, good ergonomics. I prefer to have all my fingers on a grip so I naturally steer away from the sub-compacts, pockets, etc.

With that said, I would like to change my CCW up a bit and either buy a new one with a Bobtail or have mine fitted for one.
 
Glock G36: 6+1, smoothest shooting .45 I own, the used price on it was insane from a local with NS and something like 200+ rounds. Pistol disappears like it should.
 
Another vote for the Kahr CW-9~! It's compact enough too fit my big mitts~!
Excellent sights, conventional rifling in the barrel [making it possible too shoot
reloads]; and NOT to heavy. I love mine, as I picked it up NIB for only $300
when we first started handling 'em at the gunshop~! ;) :cool:
 
When I belt carry I carry a Walther PPS in 9mm. You have a choice of 6, 7, or 8 round magazines and two different back strap inserts to customize the grip to your hand. However if you are looking for a pocket pistol, it may not be the best choice as it is just a tad large for convenient pocket carry for most people.
 
I second the

SIG 239 and PPS.

The SIG is one of the most accurate guns Ive ever shot, the Walther carries better and accuracy is almost as surprising.
 
I carry a Rock Island Compact (3.5inch). It's actually really nice for concealed carry once you ditch the fat grips it comes with. I've always like the commander sized 1911s for ccw because the 4inch barrel helps keep the gun stable when I carry IWB, however, the full sized grip is kind of hard to hide. The Rock Island is nice because the barrel is a tad longer than the other officer sized 1911s and the grip is still shorter than the commander.

That being said, If you're looking at a single stack than there is a specific reason for it. The Taurus Slims are surprisingly nice little guns and although I'm not an M&P fanboy, the Shield is way nicer than it should be :eek:
 
I am not much of a fan of subcompact pistols, but do own a few for Summer carry, like the S&W Shield 9mm and SIG P238, P938. My favorite single stack pistols; SIG P239, SIG 1911 RCS, STI Trojan 9mm, and S&W model 39-2. Now I no longer have any DA/SA pistols, traded the P239, sold the S&W 39, if I could have one back it would be the P239. Not many single stack pistols larger than a subcompact these days... except the 1911, and the possibilities are numerous with this platform. If I could only own one to do it all, I would have to seriously consider the SIG RCS 1911. Great CCW, excelent range pistol, I even have shot it in Steel Challenge matches.
 
As of yesterday, the 40 Shield I picked up, with hornaday red tip ammo it will be the flavor of the month, But my 26 and 40 EMP work just as well. And the 1911 EMP is actually smaller with one more round. It used to be a gun that is an inch wide and weighs under 30 ozs, which eliminates everything that I like to shoot. But the weight is really not as big an issue as the balance of the handgun. Thin is in, if you can slide it into a holster "in or out", of waist, and pull a tee shirt over it without seeing it, then it works for me. I am able to do that even with an emp "which is a heavy little gun" without printing.
PS: I couldn't do it when I was out of shape and my gut was pushing it out. Dropping 40 lbs in a year made a huge difference.
the Stomach will push the grip out at an angle making it much easier to spot, than if it's close to the body with a belt over it.

Make sure you test your gun with those before you carry them, my 40 Shield choked on them left and right
 
I recently picked up a Ruger P95 in 9mm, mostly because the price was right for a weapon shot less than 50x.
It shoots well and it's not really that bulky for a CCW.
 
Sig 239

Add one more vote for the Sig 239. I'm 5' 10" and cycle between 185 and 195 pounds and I can carry the 239 in an Outside The Waistand holster under an untucked t-shirt with no problem. The Sig offers a good balance between small enough to carry and large enough to shoot well. The DA/SA trigger gives me a lot of psychological comfort when unholstering, storing in my console then re-holstering while seated in my vehicle as I access many No Carry locations. I have two mag pouches I alternate between, a single mag carrier and a double, both hide well. So I can venture out with three total mags and 25 rounds if I choose to.

I'm anxious to see the XDs in 9mm and will consider it as an alternative on those days I know it will be staying in the holster.
 
Single Stack

First off I much prefer high capacity pistols. If I had to carry a single stack, I probably would carry the H&K 45C. Nine rounds .45 in a reasonable package that's very accurate, very reliable, and the recoil is somewhat lesser than most.
This allows for a little quicker target acquisition. The ergos are also well thought out and that allows for a little quicker mag changes. I carry the H&K on occasion (this is the 5th H&K I've owned and I like it better than the others). I carry the Glock 23 (Gen 3) stoked with Glock 22 mags and a "collar" that fills the gap. This makes for a 16 round .40 caliber in a 9mm compact platform. I've found nothing superior in any measurable, objective measure or thinking I've done. Plus I find the Gen 3 Glock's utterly reliable. Just my opinion but it's based on a pretty large sample.

Hk p7

Another vote for the HK P7. I like the P7 because it feels good in my hand, and I shoot it really well. Give one a try, you may love it as well.

First Choice would be Beretta Nano, fully ambidextrous and smooth sided with nothing to snag when drawn. Second choice is the M&P Shield, only weakness is a one sided safety when I'm a lefty who prefers no safety, and they're hard to find. Last choice would be the XDS but I only buy made in USA, Croatia isn't where I would choose to have my gun made haha.

I love my Kahr CW9 and my Glock 36 .45cal.:) Both are easy to carry, accurate and reliable. The Kahr is a little smaller and lighter weight than the Glock. The Glock is easier to strip, clean and reassemble
I bought a couple of 8 round mags for the Kahr giving it plenty of capacity. A double stack is just too much bulk and weight for my use.
I recommend going to a range and shooting a box through two or different pistol that have already been broken in before you buy.

I first purchased a Kahr PM40 for my EDC weapon. As time went on I didn't care for the DAO trigger as much as my SIGs with DA/SA trigger system. So the Kahr is in the safe and I purchased a SIG P239 DA/SA in .40S&W and I'm very happy with it.
My vote is for the SIG P239.

My CCW would be the Glock 36. In fact, I will pick up my new pistol next week. What more can I say. I love a good .45. My home defense pistol is a Colt Government Model 70.
