Why short dummy barrel on UZI?

If the UZI has a folding stock on it, which it most likely does the dummy barrel is so you can have the look/feel of a sub gun without the SBR paperwork.

If you have a UZI pistol with a dummy barrel somebody either bought it at a gun show or online because they thought it was a neat accessory.

Top is a legal barrel length the bottom is a rifle with the dummy barrel, looks cool but does absolutely nothing, but look cool

Why and when were the semi-auto UZI's sold with the short dummy barrel?

Back in the day when Action Arms was importing the IMI Uzi rifles they included a dummy barrel for display purposes. Why? Just because.

Here are my IMI Uzi's (45ACP version and 9mm Version) with dummy barrels installed.

Years ago I had a semi-auto Uzi
A cop that owned a local gun shop sold me a 2" barrel.
The kids drove me nuts reloading for that thing.
They were not happy when I sold It---BUT I WAS.

I agree with the "just for looks". Kind of silly we're not trusted with the short barrel especially for something that's that large to begin with. Another useless law!

For nwilliams, what's the OAL of your carbines with the long barrel, and stock folded? Michigan measures with stock folded, and long guns must be minimum 30". More useless laws! Sorry for the hijack.

I'm looking for more Uzi info here http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=683840. You can reply on that thread so I don't derail this any further. Thanks.

It would be considered disassembled because it doesn't have a barrel anymore. In the eyes of the law, that dummy barrel is nothing. You don't have to register a AR15 lower as a pistol when you remove the upper do you?

Yes I do, and I did the SBR stamp last year, which means I got it back in April, should have done it years ago!

But I'd certainly prefer the FA option if funds permitted!
