Post-election buying panic mega thread of power

It seems many are not quite up to speed with how the second term liberates a president from his former constraints. He has no political future past 4 years and will have the opportunity now to address his wish list and not just what is "pressing".

This president has shown himself to be a total narcissist and being re-elected despite presiding over one of the worst economies in American history is only going to embolden him further. UN treaties are begging to be signed and executive orders are easily implemented. He is made of tephlon...not even BenGazi or Fast and Furious can touch him.

I think gun owners overestimate their power. If the president was really afraid of the gun lobby he wouldn't have made his statement during the debate less than a month prior to being re-elected. It is his second term, there is no need for him to fear anything.

Thinking he has more pressing issues to worry about than gun control just doesn't mesh with how he does business either. When the economy was tanking, he made healthcare his focus. When four Americans were murdered in Libya, he was worried about a YouTube video.

You simply cannot count on the presidential behavior of the past to be a factor with this guy.

I am not experiencing panic buying. I will say boxes of bulk .22 were a little picked over and there weren't many boxes of .45 to choose from. 9mm and .223 stacked as high as the shelf would allow. Rows and rows of ARs in the racks. Normal number of people at the counter. Only thing I was looking for was CCI Standard Velocity 500 packs. Didn't find any but that was often true a year ago too. It sells fast when stocked. Plenty of the plastic Mini Mag pacs to choose from.

My dad was at our local gun store in the middle of the day yesterday. They just moved from a building they were in for about 40 years to an old Gander Mountain location. He said the parking lot was as full as he had ever seen it.

I am not sure if that is a sign of panic buying, or a sign that the LGS, which was always packed on weekends and week nights, has just been able to increase business some more by moving into a larger location.

I just bought 1 pound of H335, and did the math in my head and that is only about enough to load up 285 rounds of .223 for my AR. The way I have been shooting recently, that is 1 range trip. If the "panic" turns out like it did in 2008-2009 H335 might be hard to come by for a while. I might need to buy an 8 pound jug. Vicious cycle.

I was in Bud's yesterday. Racks were full of EBRs and there were several pallets of them sitting around on the floor. Lots of ammo, too. No apparent shortages yet.

I went into the local Wal-Mart yesterday to see if I could get a box of .380 FMJ for my wife's carry gun and halfway expected to see frenzied gun owners fighting over boxes of ammo like those idiot parents over Tickle Me Elmos that one Christmas season years ago. Instead, the shelves of ammo were full and the worker said they hadn't been any busier than normal.

I then went into a local gun shop after work and same story, the usual brisk business they have enjoyed for the past four years, but not some Black Friday door stampeding and shelf-clearing situation I was halfway expecting.

My guess is most people don't really have the money to panic buy like they did in '08

This weekend could be telling, however.

Whatever happened to supporting our President, like it or not!! Those that seek to divide our country along political parties are the problem. Our President is not a dictator, there are two other branches of government he must consider before "imposing his will" on our country.

We all need to step back and take a breath instead of fostering fear mongering and finger pointing! Fear of the future will fuel panic buying, it happened in 08, let's learn from our mistakes instead of repeating the past.

So are you seeing panic buying where you live?

Did my rounds at all the LGS,wally world and the like.No rush on 5.56,9mm slugs or buckshot.Stores actually had less traffic than normal after the election, why I do not know.Only saw one person with a shopping cart with 1k of 762x39,but plenty still on the shelves.

I still see plenty of ladies and couples buying either duty size handguns for HD or small concealable guns for CCW.I have never seen so many ladies buying guns like I have in the last three years. The CCW instructors are very busy in my area. Most appear to be new gun owners as they do not exhibit any real knowledge about firearms. Many seek out NRA training for basic firearm familiarization.

At the last gun show in Dallas I went to I saw a number of unaccompanied women, under the age of 40, looking at and buying guns. This would have been startling to see even less than a decade ago.

Local gun stores are under stocked with side arms. They say sales are brisk. From my own observation there are a lot less to choose from. Larger venues like Gander Mt. say business is good but have adequate inventory. Many are concerned about a "second term tightening".

I think ammo will be the weak link for gun owers.

I think the panic will be more long term price increases and some shortages over the next few years, no rabid hysteria unless a new ban passes and people rush to buy stuff prior to its active date. Expect to see a lot more of this if any new SCOTUS members are selected. Right now nobody I know is in a hurry to buy, but the younger folks that haven't bought much yet may feel pressured once new bans are imminent.

I haven't checked around but I see no reason for panic buying of anything right now. I really believe that if the current Administration had wanted to attempt some sort of firearm control they would have done it during their first term either by limiting weapon or ammunition sales. So far nothing has happened and I don’t believe anything will happen. Even if it does I'm set with over 2,0000 rounds of ammo.
As people smarter than I am have speculated, Obama has not wanted to scare away gun people before his reelection. And from the number of comments like yours, it seems to have worked. In the second debate, he all but promised a new "assault weapons" ban. He is on the record stating that no citizen should be allowed to own a handgun. It is expected by many that, once he gets over the current financial crisis, he will wait for the first big news shooting story and introduce new gun controls.

BTW, how much ammo do you have? 2,000 rounds or 20,000 rounds? I couldn't tell from the 2,0000 number you quoted. If it is really 20,000, you are certainly better prepared than I am!

Sorry, fell prey to internet lie apparently. He has "only" signed 139 executive orders as of September. Still makes my point though.

No it doesn't.

That is a slower rate of executive orders than Bush, for example.

And 900 vs 139 is a fantastically huge difference.

Seriously? - Ignoring the will of Congress and the People for full disclosure, doing things the way he wants through Executive Order; appointing more "Czars" who do not answer to anyone?
What makes you think he really has two other branches to worry about? They are ALL in it for themselves, and if gun control comes up and it favors him acting in a certain manner, he will; thus people are starting to create their own shortages by panic buying. They seem to think the first thing he is going to do is enact gun control legislation - he isn't - he has an economy to worry about. He'll leave that to the SCOTUS folks he gets to replace - then the blame is on them, not him

Sorry to get off topic, but SCOTUS keeps coming up and I feel it needs to be stated:
I am just as pensive about a SCOTUS that would declare corporations are people, as I am about a SCOTUS that would further limit 2A powers. In fact, I am more alarmed at a SCOTUS that has already worked to empower corporations to the same degree as citizens, which frankly furthers a huge problem in our country, big business interests in govt.....
than I am at a SCOTUS that has already ruled in favor of 2A rights and would have to severely reverse itself if and when it were inclined to work to limit 2A rights.

So the SCOTUS alarmists should really think about what the SCOTUS has been doing lately, who it harms and benefits, and which way the SCOTUS "leaned" politically while they were making said decisions.....before they start telling me that one party's SCOTUS is going to do better things for the country than another party's SCOTUS

Their decision went a long way toward providing a "bought and paid for" system of election, where the donors with the most capitol can heavily influence elections.
Feel free to explain to me how that benefits the citizens of this country.

Pro 2A these days is not always Pro America. Look at Walmart.

Join the NRA, buy your AR rifle...

after the election results, no explaination should be needed. Fasten your seatbelts for a firestorm of anti-gun legislation...
Ammo and AR parts and primers are already starting to get scarce...

My God people stop the fear mongering. Nothing is going to happen. Why?

1.Republicans control the U.S. House so no anti gun bill will pass.

2 It takes 60 voted to do anything in the Senate and there are 44 Republicans at last count and that leaves the Democrats 4 votes short a and that doesnt count our Democratic supporters. So nothing comes out of the Senate.

3. No action will take place for fear of a complete Republican take over in the 2014 off year elections.

I tried to buy a box of 150 Gr Ballistic Tip 30 cal today in Cabela's and there were none. There were nearly every other type of bullet, though.
