Post-election buying panic mega thread of power

So what's the smart move?

Do nothing different?

Buy the potentially banned firearms/mags now while you can?

Don't buy them at all if there is potential confiscation and buy more "tame" firearms like bolt action rifles?

I'm leaning towards doing nothing differently. Hate making decisions out of fear, but the other options are in my head.

Let me get back to you on that in 2016. Kidding aside, if you have been thinking about a new AR or AK anyway, why not consider it sooner rather than later. I don't see confiscation happening in our lifetime, even with Comrade Obama calling the shots. I can see a new "assault weapons" ban, though, since Barry promised that lady during the second debate he would get rid of those AK-47's. Or, if the Congress is not supportive of a ban, then excise taxes, application fees, increased background checking, etc. would be a typical Obama back door approach. Also, out of control debt and government spending has to produce inflation at some point. That's Economics 101.

We're both in Texas. If you buy from local gun stores, as I do, then look between Christmas and New Years. You deal with a manager or owner, and he'll know that his January 1 inventory is going to cost him between 3 and 4 percent in ad valorem taxes. He might prefer to give it to you rather than the county tax assessor-collector.

That's interesting. Thanks.

I suppose like in most things in life, the extremes won't happen. Could see fees go up, some more hoops to jump through and the frog generally being boiled slowly.

This is easy for me to say as I have most of the potentially banned guns i always wanted already but I just don't see the need to panic. Just about 50% of americans oppose new gun legislation and many of those are unaffiliated and Democrats. The dems tend to be pretty good at learning from their mistakes so i don't think they would risk the backlash of new legislation. My plan is to start some SBR projects i've been wanting to do and maybe pick up a can or two. Once things settle i'll then capitalize on the deals to get a few more of the guns i've always wanted.

That's another thing I've thought of getting soon, some suppressors.

A wealthy guy could speculate, put a few grand into stripped lowers and mags, but that's not an option for me and it's risky financially.

Then again I was told to buy gold at $250 an ounce and didn't because I didn't want to speculate.

If you want to speculate, then buy plenty of hi-cap mags and stripped lowers. New PMAGS will never go below $12 a piece. There are plenty of stripped lowers available for less than $100, and I don't see them dropping in price. Ammo, ditto. It's not going to get any cheaper.

So, I think that hi-cap mags, stripped lowers, and ammo are pretty much RISK FREE investments at this time.

That's what people said 4 years ago.

But guess what? I bought brand new 30 round PMAGs from a major internet retailer for $10.41, shipped, about 2 weeks ago.

Also...bulk .223/5.56 (and a little 300 blk) at my LGS about 30 minutes ago:

I suspect that most of the people on this thread who are saying that Obama is too smart to go gun-grabbing or that the Democrats won't let him, voted for him, and are trying to justify their own vote to themselves.

I realize that most people vote for candidates based upon their overall positions and not based upon a single litmus test be it Life or RTBA or anything other issue. But there is no denying that a vote for Obama was a vote against the 2nd Amendment. Obama is not an aberration either when it comes to the Democrats. The DNC platform is anti-gun. It calls for a reenactment of the Assault Weapon's ban and for closing the 'gun show loophole'. If you don't believe me go look for yourself.

Negative.

To an extent, yes.

I still say it won't happen, just like I said it wouldn't happen in 2008. I was sure proved right about that, and I expect to be proved right again.

The sky is not falling

I hope you're right, Warp. I'm not into predicting the future, if I was I'd be on eTrade and not THR but I don't trust those people, that's for sure.

Ammo, like food, should be bought on a REGULAR BASIS. Don't wait till the last minute and pay scalper prices. Buy a little TODAY, and keep it up.

A completely asinine assertion.

Um, CTD is NEVER cheaper than ANYWHERE
sorry, but they are the people of the 79 dollar box of .380

their claim 'we have it instock, good luck finding it elsewhere'
well too bad for them, walmart had it in stock too, for 18.99.....

Don't know about prices going up, but I have noticed Midway USA is suddenly out-of-stock on several of my favorites.

Shipping usually kills any 'deals' at cheaper than dirt.

If you buy enough stuff, and valuable enough stuff, all shipping from one warehouse, you can do okay. Otherwise...better options exist

Doesn't it matter which warehouse it ships from? I've seen things at CTD be twice as expensive as they should be... Until I look at a different warehouse, then it's pretty much in line with expectations.
