Hi all,
I just ordered a Mitch Rosen holster for my Ruger SR9c. I have a nice IWB Comp-Tac and am now looking for an OWB for certain outfit combinations.

The Mitch Rosen, through Ruger won't be shipped until after Dec 15...so, anyone have any suggestions for something comparable? Here's what I like about the Motch Rosen:
- open top, eg no thumb strap
- formed leather (classy, attractive)
- closed bottom - I don't like the barrel sticking out.
- high ride at a forward cant.
- made for the SR9c
Anything else out there like this I should consider? No IWB, no Kydex.

Thanks

The Rosen holster is probably open at the bottom, but covers the entire slide.

There are many holsters that will meet your needs. Are you looking for something that will ship sooner than what you have already ordered or just something that will meet your criteria.?

Have you browsed through online catalogs such as midwayusa, optics planet, etc? I have tried a holster for a Glock 19 on mine it fits with about 1/2 an inch extra space so maybe a Glock 26 holster off of the shelf might fit better and get you by until you receive your MR holster. Also try places like Gander Mountain, Cabela's and/or sportsmans warehouse for holster options.

If you are referring to the Rosen 5JR, it is open at the bottom.

If you just ordered it and getting it as soon as Dec 15th, that is amazingly quick. I can't think of a holster of similar quality you could get in less time. I would have expected a 6 month wait

Ok, I was unaware the MR "was" open at the bottom. I was hoping to find an alternative holster meeting this criteria that could be obtained faster.

It is difficult for me to find holsters because I'm left handed as well.

I am concerned about quality. It may be best to just wait for the MR to come in Dec. I was also concerned about mid Dec delivery delays too. I don't want Dec to turn into Jan.

Most places that have form-fitted holsters are going to have some turnaround time. IMHO everything that matches your description (high ride, open top, good appearance) is a good bet for High Noon Holsters; they have rush service for a bit more money, but they make really nice products and should have plenty that are available for the SR9c. Their website is a bit "big" but still navigable.

I have a High Noon Snapper for my SR9C that I sold last year that I will let you have at a reasonable price. Used only a month before I sold the pistol. You can have it in three days. Send me a PM if interested.

Which High Noon holster are you paying $145 for?

I don't think the OP is looking for horsehide. The "Topless", which meets his criteria, in cowhide is a $100 holster. The "rush" shipping will cost you an extra $50 though.

True -- I was looking at horsehide. Ok, so $150 plus shipping. Look, I really liked my Snapper from HN. It was a great holster.

BTW - you wouldn't be in Tampa would you?

The MR from Ruger is about $80. The same holster on MR's site is about $145. I guess part of the reason for the delay is because I'm LH.

I have looked at the HN, but thought the MR was of comparable quality at a better price. Looks like I need to just be patient. Thanks for all of the input from everyone.

Rosen has two levels of holster. The one Ruger is selling is their Express Line. They have less detail and ship faster. The 5JR-Express from Rosen sells for $75. If you buy direct from Rosen, it shouldn't make any difference if you are righty or lefty on the delivery time.

The "full detail" 5JR is a more expensive holster and will take longer for delivery.

Your wait time from Ruger is very short for a custom holster. Milt Sparks typical delivery times are in the six month range. In the 2008-2009 time frame, most custom makers had delivery times approaching a year. Some people were even waiting over two years (some may still be) from some makers.

I called Mitch Rosen today and the date Ruger gave me was accurate. When I asked if I could order direct, the lady said the turn around time would be the same - since each order is a custom holster.

Long story short, I'm learning patience. Thanks all for the input.

Wait for the Mitch Rosen, it'll be worth it. I bought one each for my Ruger KLCR .357mag and my Kahr CM9. I couldn't be happier with all aspects of the MR, construction, fit, draw, holds tight to body, etc. My favorite holster for both firearms easily, and use them 95% of the time. Time will fly by. Take care, and enjoy.

Holster finally arrived a few weeks ago. I love it and am glad I waited. The quality is what I was hoping for and the fit is perfect. Very comfortable to wear all day long.
